5. Wannian Ice Cave

The Wannian Ice Cave is located in Madigou Village, Chunjingwa Township, 50 kilometers west of Ningwu County, next to the tourist line, at an altitude of 2,300 meters. According to on-site inspections by cave experts from the Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, this cave was formed during the Quaternary Ice Age of the Cenozoic Era, about three million years ago, hence the name Wannian Ice Cave. What's unique about it is that based on the local climate conditions, it is impossible to form a freezing environment, but the cave is frozen all year round.

Even in the scorching summer, outside the cave is green grass and flowers are blooming, but inside the cave is freezing cold and the ice is carved with jade. The ice becomes thicker as you go deeper into the ground, and the temperature gets colder and colder as you go deeper. The high conventional geological conditions form a strong contrast. Experts say the ice cave ranks first among only nine ice caves among more than 10,000 caves in the country.
