Isolated Shentang Bay in Hunan Province

Shentang Bay is surrounded by cliffs on three sides. There is only a gap in the mountain on one side, which allows you to overlook the bottom of the bay. According to local mountain people, from the gap to the bottom of Shentang Bay, there are nine levels of rock piers to descend. Most people dare not go down. Even the brave ones can only go down to the second pier before turning back. In 1968, in order to collect valuable medicinal materials such as Ganoderma lucidum, a herb collection team of the People's Liberation Army tied ropes around their waists, pulled each other, and climbed vines. They could only go down to six piers and then could no longer go down. Because when they looked down at Liudun, they still couldn't see the bottom. They only heard a huge roar, which was very scary, so they had no choice but to turn back.

How deep and how far Shentang Bay is is still a mystery. According to folklore, Shentang Bay is the place where Xiang Dakun, the leader of the Tujia peasant uprising, retreated and set up camp after his defeat. Because he was dissatisfied, he continued to train his troops there in order to make a comeback. Therefore, every time it gets dark, you can still hear people shouting in the bay. The sound of horses neighing.
