Sari Beach

There are no high-quality beaches in Dakar itself. They are basically located on volcanic ash rocks. There are some beaches along the coastline to the south of Dakar, among which Sari Beach is the most famous one.

Rose Lake

Rose Lake is more than 20 kilometers away from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. It is the end point of the famous Paris-Dakar Rally. The lake water has a high concentration of salt. The color is red, hence the name. The best time every day is at four or five o'clock in the afternoon, when the sun sets, and the entire lake will glow red in the sun. By the lakeside, you can see piles of salt dug out from the bottom of the lake, large and small piles, some with price tags inserted. It is said that these salts are sold to processing plants as raw materials for production. Rose Lake is a lagoon that was formed after the original seawater was isolated. After being exposed by the African sun, the mineral salt content in the lake water became higher and higher. Rose Lake was originally more than fifteen kilometers long, but it is only six kilometers long. Since there is a large amount of crystallized salt at the bottom of the lake to form a shell, fresh water can be pumped out from less than one meter away from the lake.

Goree Island

The beautiful Goree Island

3 kilometers southeast of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, there is an island 900 meters long from north to south and 300 meters wide from east to west. This is the world-famous tourist island - Goree Island. Located just south of the Cape Verde Peninsula in Senegal, it is one of the earliest European colonial settlements in West Africa. The area is only 36 hectares (88 acres). Since the mid-15th century, it has been successively occupied by Portugal and France. It was once a stronghold of the slave trade on the Atlantic Ocean. It fell with the rise of St. Louis and Dhaka. The island has beautiful scenery, museums and ancient castle ruins, and is a tourist attraction.

Gore Island, formed by the solidification of black basalt lava flow, is like a black pearl inlaid on the blue sea. It has a platform with a fortress at its southern end, and a fort (Fortress of Estrela) at its northern end. There is a small pier on the island for small boats traveling to and from Dakar. On both sides of the sandy streets, red ocher-colored dilapidated houses stand side by side.

The main buildings on the island also include a mosque, a church and one or two colonial administration buildings. Compared to other tourist destinations around the world, the island has been frequented by Africans since the Neolithic Age and the basalt tools found on the island are the same as those found in Cape Manuel and the Madeira Islands.
