On August 5, 2004, Guangzhou New Baiyun International Airport, with a total investment of 19.8 billion yuan, was officially put into operation. This is my country's first airport designed and constructed in accordance with the hub airport concept. The airport covers an area of ??15 square kilometers. The two parallel runways in the flight area of ??the first phase of the project comply with 4E-level standards. The terminal area is designed to meet the passenger throughput requirement of 25 million in 2010. Among them, the first phase of the new airport terminal has an area of ??320,000 square meters, which is the largest among domestic airport terminals. All facilities and equipment in the building have reached the current international advanced level. At present, Baiyun Airport has established business relationships with 33 airlines, has opened more than 110 routes, connects more than 100 domestic and foreign cities, and guarantees nearly 30 types of aircraft. It is the base airport for China Southern Airlines Group Company and Shenzhen Airlines.
The newly completed first phase of the airport is divided into three major areas: terminal area, flight area and work area: the terminal area is located in the center of the site; the flight area is divided into east and west sides ; The work area is located on the south and north sides; it contains the office areas of the airport authorities, base airlines and other units as well as the oil depot area, cargo area, aircraft maintenance area, etc. The terminal area is the core area, including the passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, complex building, parking lot and airport hotel, etc.
The main facilities are:
1: Terminal building. The terminal building is mainly composed of four major building structures: the main building, the connecting building, the corridor and the elevated corridor. The two connecting buildings on the east and west connect the main building, the elevated corridor, the airport hotel, the parking lot, etc. through the road system into a whole. There are north-south departure elevated roads symmetrically set up on the north and south sides of the main building of the terminal. Departing passengers can go straight to the check-in hall on the second floor of the main building through this, while arriving passengers can be quickly evacuated through various exits connecting the first floor of the building. The terminal building with a construction area of ??more than 300,000 square meters can meet the requirements of annual passenger throughput of 25 million passengers, 1 million tons of cargo, 90-100 aircraft takeoffs and landings during typical peak hours, and passenger throughput of 9,300 people.
2: Check-in hall: The check-in hall is on the second floor of the main building. Passengers taking a bus to the airport can enter the departure hall in the terminal building as soon as they get off the bus. The eye-catching electronic screen displays the Passengers entering and exiting the port during the time period, boarding gate, etc. The hall is very spacious, with 15 two-way pillars connecting the ground to the roof, and the pillars to the roof. Passengers who have passed the security check will wait in different areas of the four corridors and board the plane through the 46 boarding bridges connected by the corridors. The interior of the boarding bridge is a scissor-shaped structure. Departing and arriving passengers do not interfere with each other and are automatically diverted. Arriving passengers get off the boarding bridge exit, go through the corridor and the passage on the second floor of the connecting building, and go down to the first floor of the connecting building to collect their luggage.

Among them, the automatic baggage sorting system includes 7 subsystems such as check-in and sorting, including the three major baggage sorting systems of airport departure, transfer and arrival, and is worth US$22 million. This system can sort 10,000 pieces of luggage per minute on average. From sorting to sending to the transport truck, the whole process only takes 4 minutes. This system can also greatly shorten the flight transfer time. Passengers only need to go through the check-in and transfer procedures when transferring. The baggage sorting system can automatically transfer the passenger's baggage to the next flight the passenger will take, ensuring that the baggage follows its owner at any time.
6: Airport runway and air traffic control tower: The new airport currently has two runways. The east runway is 3,800 meters long and 60 meters wide, and the west runway is 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide. The flight zone grade index is 4E. It is equipped with advanced radar surveillance system, instrument landing system and navigation lighting system. It can meet the full weight take-off and landing requirements of all types of large aircraft in the world and ensure safe landing of aircraft in special weather. The first phase of the project has 66 aircraft bays, including 46 close bays, 18 remote bays, and 2 private aircraft bays. The air traffic control tower is 106 meters high. It is the tallest control tower among Chinese civil airports, with a snow-white sphere on top towering into the sky. The clouds shine against the blue sky. It is the iconic building of the airport and cost about 68.45 million yuan. The air traffic control system implements radar control and achieves multiple coverage of radar and communications, so information related to aircraft flight can be automatically processed and transmitted.
