Jinggangshan City is a county-level city in Jiangxi Province, with 6 towns and 12 townships under its jurisdiction.
Jinggangshan City is located between 26.34° north latitude and 114.10° east longitude, on the border of Hunan and Jiangxi, in the middle section of the Luoxiao Mountains, in the southwest of Jiangxi Province, bordering Taihe County to the east, Yongxin County to the north, and Sui to the south. Sichuan County is connected to Chaling County and Yanling County of Hunan Province to the west. In ancient times, it was known as "Chenheng, the junction between Hunan and Jiangxi, and the belly of Luoxiao thousands of miles away".
The average altitude of Jinggangshan City is 381.5 meters, and the main peaks are mostly over 1,000 meters above sea level. The highest peak in the city, Jiangxi Ao, is 1,841 meters above sea level. It is a mountainous city.
The Jinggangshan Scenic Area within the territory is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, a national key scenic spot, a national nature reserve, a Chinese civilized scenic tourist area, a key cultural relic protection unit in China, a national red tourist attraction, and one of China's 100 National Patriotism Education Demonstration Base, China’s Top Ten Excellent Social Education Bases, China’s Excellent Tourism City, World Biosphere Reserve, and World Heritage Preparatory List.
Jinggangshan is China’s first rural revolutionary base centered on Ninggang County, led by the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Mao Zedong, Zhu De and Chen Yi. The revolutionary path of "seizing power with arms" has Chinese characteristics and is known as "the cradle of the Chinese revolution" and "the cornerstone of the Chinese People's Republic of China."
Jinggangshan City is a city directly under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province. Ji'an City is under the jurisdiction of a county-level city. In 1984, the county was removed and a city was established. In May 2000, the former Jinggangshan City and the former Ninggang County merged to form a new Jinggangshan City. . Jinggangshan City has 6 towns under its jurisdiction: Xiaping Town, Dalong Town, Longshi Town, Gucheng Town, Xincheng Town, and Ciping Town; 12 townships: Changping Township, Bailu Township, Hehua Township, Nashan Township, and Ao Township. Li Township, Maoping Township, Dongshang Township, Huangao Township, Eling Township, Getian Township, Mucun Township, and Xiaqi Township.
