What are actions in short video scripts?
What are short video script actions? Is it the character’s smile and behavior? This is an action that we understand in life, but the script must be designed to convey comedy action.
There is a difference between dramatic action and everyday action.
Three elements of comedy action design in scripts:
1. What action is to be performed? It must be a visible action
2. Why do it? Motivation
3. How? Effective action
In layman's terms, a character does something for a certain purpose, which is the character's motivation, and starts doing it. This is what we call dramatic action.
Motivation is to put an engine into the action. Just give the audience a reason why to do this?
This dramatic action is divided into: active action and passive action.
Active action means that the character actively wants to do something.
For example, a person has a strong motivation and persists in doing something for a long time. This situation does exist, but it is relatively rare. Most people’s lives are characterized by laziness and Casual.
Also, positive things in life attract and inspire a person, giving him or her the motivation to do something.
For example: In order to encourage his girlfriend to climb the Great Wall, a boyfriend put 100 yuan on each step of the Great Wall to encourage his girlfriend to climb up.
To put it bluntly, it is to design an attractive reward. If he wants it, he must act.
But the attraction of this positive value thing is far less than the actions of a negative value thing that suppresses, forces, and impacts people.
For example, taking the postgraduate entrance examination, taking the civil service examination, studying abroad... There is no doubt that after further study, we will learn more things, and our social and economic status may be improved, and there are many benefits. Then let’s get started: study hard. But if we continue to learn, we will become lazy, or even stop and give up halfway.
But if the latter situation occurs and difficulties arise - for example, you lose your job or break up in love, and the landlord is urging you to pay the rent, your girlfriend also says that you will be given a month to find a job quickly. If you can't find it, break up! Do you think you dare to be lazy at this time?
One day the protagonist encountered something bad and was unlucky! For example, he lost his job, so he started to take action: find a new job.
This forms a staged (rather than throughout the whole play) action. This action just solved the problem, but it triggered the second unlucky thing and started taking action again. Over and over again, and so on, a passive action chain with a logical relationship is formed, which develops downward one by one until the final dilemma is solved at the end.
Therefore, when designing dramatic actions in the script, we must design passive actions, not active actions.
Take a simple example: An athlete is training for running. This active action cannot be paid attention to. But in order to make the athlete run faster, his coach sent a dog to chase him. This is interesting.
What are small actions? What is a big move?
The running training for athletes mentioned above is just a small movement.
It is a big move for the coach to release the dog and let the athletes run for training.
When the motivation is powerful enough, it becomes an inspiring incident (that is, the character has a clear goal that he must do).
Why is action the source of the story?
If we who write the script don’t know what the protagonist is going to do, and he or she actually doesn’t have a clear idea of ??what he or she is going to do in the play, then a story without action will definitely be impossible to write and impossible to watch.
If we know what the protagonist is going to do and start doing it, there is a story.
The way this story is written is that the screenwriter constantly sets up obstacles for what the protagonist wants to do, one obstacle after another, each one bigger and more difficult to overcome than the last. (For example, when I want to do this, others won’t let me do it. When I want to say this, others won’t let me say it.)
Then, the protagonist overcomes difficulties and breaks through the layers. Layers of obstacles and finally reaching the goal, this is the story.
