The increase of tourists will inevitably lead to the increase of garbage brought in; It is inconvenient for residents to be crowded by boat; Noisy streets affect residents' rest and so on.

1. architecture. First of all, the old buildings have been built for a long time and are seriously damaged, and the public facilities and sanitation facilities are insufficient, which makes it difficult to meet the life requirements of the information society. Residents are not owners and neglect management. Although the construction of new buildings is carried out according to the idea of "should be reduced rather than increased, should be quiet rather than noisy, should be low rather than high, should be small rather than large, should be scattered rather than aggregated, should be refined rather than coarse", although it is stipulated that the number of floors, shapes, colors and artistic volume of new buildings within the protection scope of historical buildings must be coordinated with surrounding buildings, there have been too many new buildings in recent years, and the old buildings have not been well protected and utilized, resulting in vacant houses and low rents.

2. Terrain. Longtou Mountain, Flag Raising Mountain and Jim are juxtaposed on the island, with undulating mountains and complex spatial texture. Although the alleys with rich height difference are full of fun, they also cause traffic difficulties. Traffic on the island basically depends on walking, and major scenic spots can be organized by battery cars. The only motor vehicle is a fire truck, and the human flatbed truck is used to transport goods. However, the residential areas behind Bijia Mountain and Jim Mountain have become traffic blind spots, and battery cars can't reach them, let alone motor vehicles. The renewal in these areas is stagnant, and the problem of aging is gradually exposed.

3. Population structure. Influenced by the modern lifestyle, the population structure has changed. The original population of Gulangyu Island has decreased from 40,000 in the 1970s to more than10.5 million now, and many young people and children have moved to Xiamen Island or beyond, resulting in serious aging of Gulangyu Island. The personnel quality is not optimistic. A large influx of temporary residents illegally built many "new homes", or arbitrarily rebuilt or destroyed their old homes, and the living environment lacked effective organization and management, which added the strange phenomenon of "mahjong every night" to the island and affected the quiet and elegant living atmosphere.

4. Over-exploitation. With the influence of real estate fever and over-exploitation of tourism in recent years, it has brought negative effects to Gulangyu. This influence is becoming more and more serious. At the peak of tourism, the phenomenon of excessive influx of people, noisy noise and littering all over the island is just the tip of the iceberg, but the most beautiful urban area is not suitable for people to live in. Exposed the weak environmental awareness and aging management system of residents and tourists. Raising the island fee is an expedient measure and cannot solve the fundamental problem.
