The name "Jinggangshan" comes from a village called "Jinggangshan Village" at the foot of Wu Zhifeng (the main peak of Jinggangshan, with a ticket pattern of 100 yuan). About 300 years ago, two peasant families named Lan and Huang in Xingning County, Guangdong Province, moved to a flat land under the rule of Wu Zhifeng and settled down in order to escape the war. Because it is surrounded by mountains and the terrain is like a well, there is a stream flowing by. Hakka people call the stream "Jiang", so they call it "Jingjiang", the mountain next to it is called "Jingjiang Mountain" and the village is called "Jingjiang Mountain Village". Because the Hakka accent "Jiang" and "Gang" are homophonic, people have long called it "Jinggangshan Village". So there was the place name "Jinggangshan". During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Jinggangshan began to be inhabited. When the Qin Dynasty established the county system, it was the territory of Luling County, Jiujiang County. In 280 AD, Xichang and Suixing of Luling County were divided and ruled during the Taikang period of the Western Jin Dynasty. During the reign of Tang Xianqing (658), it was changed to the territory of Jizhou Prefecture in the west of Jiangnan. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it has successively belonged to Yongxin and Longquan (now Suichuan) in Ji 'an Prefecture, Jiangxi Province.

During the periods of 1927 and 10- 1939, the Hunan-Jiangxi border became an "armed regime of workers and peasants", and a "(Yong) (Chuan) border special zone" was established in Jinggangshan, directly under the leadership of the government of workers, peasants and soldiers on the Hunan-Jiangxi border. 1August 949, Jinggangshan was liberated. Jinggangshan Special Zone was established in 1950. 1in July, 959, the State Council approved the establishment of Jinggangshan Administration, which was directly led by Jiangxi Provincial People's Committee.
