Yangzhou Qingqu is a seated singing performance, with as few as one or two performers and as many as eight or nine performers, and they play their own instruments to accompany each other. Each performs an instrument, sings solo or duet, without makeup or other props.

Yangzhou Qingqu is a folk art singing form developed on the basis of folk songs and minor tunes popular in Yangzhou during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is also known as "Guangling Qingqu", "Weiyang Qingqu", and is commonly known as "Xiaoyu". "Singing" or "singing ditties" is mainly popular in Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, Shanghai and other places in Jiangsu Province, and is performed in Yangzhou dialect.

In November 2019, the "List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Protection Units" was announced, and the Yangzhou Qingqu Inheritance and Development Research Association in Guangling District, Yangzhou City was qualified as a protection unit for the Yangzhou Qingqu Project.

Classic repertoire

Yangzhou Qing opera repertoire is very rich, with more than 400 pieces, divided into singles and suites. Most of the singles are about scenery, lyricism, chanting of objects, and lovesickness, such as "Wind, Flowers, Snow and Moon", "Lovesickness in Four Seasons", "Qinghe Weather", "Fireworks Lament", "Struggle between Bamboo and Wood", etc.; the suites are mostly based on folk legends , historical stories, such as "Three Kingdoms", "Water Margin", "The Romance of the West Chamber", "A Dream of Red Mansions", "The Legend of White Snake", "Pearl Tower", etc. ?
