Shapotou: National AAAAA-level tourist scenic spot, National Desert Ecological Nature Reserve, World Top 500 Environmental Protection, Top 20 National Fitness Scenery and Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress.

Shapotou is located at the southeast edge of Tengger Desert in the west of zhongwei, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It starts from Erdaogou South Forest Protection Room in the east, reaches Toudaodun in the west, connects Tengger Desert in the north and the Yellow River in the south. It is about 38km long and 5km wide, with an altitude of1.300 ~1.500m, with a total area of 4,599.3 hectares, accounting for 3% of the total land area of zhongwei. It is one of the 20 key desertification control areas in China.

Shapotou integrates desert, Yellow River, mountain and oasis, with magnificent northwest and beautiful south of the Yangtze River. There is the largest natural sliding sand field in China, the "first rope of the Yellow River in the world" across the Yellow River, the ancient waterwheel and sheepskin raft represented by the Yellow River culture, the oldest means of transportation on the Yellow River, and a rare mirage in the desert. You can ride a camel through the Tengger Desert, surf in the sand sea by off-road vehicle, and enjoy the wonders of desert solitary smoke and long river sunset at close range.

Shapotou mainly protects natural desert landscape, natural sandy vegetation, sand control scientific research achievements, wild animals, the ancient Great Wall of Ming Dynasty, Shapotou ringing bells and other cultural landscapes and their natural complexes.
