1, Forbidden City
The Forbidden City is located in the center of Beijing, also known as the Forbidden City. Twenty-four emperors lived here, which was the palace of Ming and Qing dynasties (A.D.1368 ~1911). Now it's the Palace Museum. The whole building of the Forbidden City is resplendent and magnificent. It is known as one of the five largest palaces in the world (the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Palace of Versailles in France, Buckingham Palace in Britain, the White House in the United States and the Kremlin in Russia) and is listed as a "World Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO.
Palace buildings in the Forbidden City are the largest and most complete ancient buildings in China, with a total area of over 720,000 square meters. Whether it is plane layout, three-dimensional effect or grand form, it is an unparalleled masterpiece.
A central axis runs through the whole Forbidden City, which is on the central axis of Beijing. The three main halls, the last three palaces and the imperial garden are all located on this central axis. These palaces can be divided into two parts: the outer court and the inner court. 6. Yuanmingyuan
Yuanmingyuan is located in the northwest suburb of Beijing, adjacent to the Summer Palace. It consists of Yuanmingyuan Garden, Changchun Garden and Wanchun Garden, also known as Yuanming Three Gardens. Yuanmingyuan is one of the famous royal gardens in Qing Dynasty, covering an area of more than 5,200 mu, with 150 views. The building area is 1.6 million square meters, which is known as "the garden of ten thousand gardens". The royal family of the Qing Dynasty came here every summer to govern, so Yuanmingyuan was also called "Summer Palace".
Yuanmingyuan was built in 1709 (forty-eight years of Kangxi). Kangxi gave it to Yongzheng, who had not acceded to the throne, to pass the time. After Yongzheng 1722 acceded to the throne, the original garden was expanded, and Zheng Da Guangming Hall and Qin Zhengtang were built in the south of the garden, as well as the value storage rooms of the Cabinet, Sixth Department and Military Department to avoid noise and listen to political affairs. During the Qianlong period, the Yuanmingyuan was partially rebuilt, with Changchun Garden in the east and Wanchun Garden in the southeast, and the pattern of Yuanmingyuan was basically formed. During the Jiaqing period, Qichun Garden became one of the main garden places after reconstruction and expansion. During the Daoguang period, the national strength declined and the financial resources were insufficient. Daoguang would rather withdraw the furnishings of Wanshou, Xiangshan and Yuquan, and stop the Jehol from summering and hunting Mulan, but he rebuilt the Yuanming Three Gardens.
Yuanmingyuan was burnt down by the British and French allied forces in 1860. Roughly speaking, the number of looted cultural relics is about150,000, ranging from bronze ritual vessels in the pre-Qin period to famous paintings and calligraphy in the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties and various rare treasures. Eight-Nation Alliance 1900 invaded Beijing, and the royal gardens in the western suburbs were robbed again. During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, it was destroyed to varying degrees. Finally, during the Cultural Revolution, the Yuanmingyuan was also destroyed.
