Guilin institute of tourism was founded in 1985, formerly known as guilin institute of tourism, and 1994 was named "guilin institute of tourism". In 20 15, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 20021,it became a university established by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It is two independent full-time public tourism undergraduate colleges in China.

There are 32 undergraduate enrollment majors in the school, involving 7 disciplines including management, economics, literature, art, engineering, science and education, covering the six major elements of "eating, living, traveling, shopping and entertainment" tourism, leisure and health, smart tourism and other new major areas.
