Apply for a border defense permit to Tibet!

Before I went to Tibet, I did not apply for a border defense permit. I had no plans to go to Mount Everest, so I hurriedly applied for a new one in Shigatse. What was said above is not accurate. It is very cheap to apply for a border defense permit in Shigatse—— As long as you go through the formal channels, that is to say, you need to tell the driver to arrive in Shigatse earlier, preferably around four o'clock, and then go straight to the Tourism Bureau, where there is a special office to issue a letter of introduction. The fee is 20 yuan—— Remember, don’t let the driver in! Otherwise, he would check the driver's license and employment certificate, which would waste time. After opening the letter of introduction, go to the Border Defense Corps to get the border defense permit. A deposit of 10 yuan is required. Although the 10 yuan is refundable, most people will not refund it because holding the Tibetan border defense permit in their hands feels like It's so interesting that most people wouldn't want to give it up. So all in all, it only costs 30 yuan. (I initially listened to the driver’s advice and went to a travel agency, but I actually asked for 100!)

Both the tourism bureau and the border guard get off work at 6 o’clock, so hurry up early rather than late.

A photo is required to apply for a border permit in Lhasa, but not in Shigatse.

However, there seems to be new regulations regarding border permits recently, that is, starting from January 2007, they must be applied for at the place of household registration. I don’t know if it applies to Tibet. You’d better find out first.
