Understanding of the collectivization of tourism industry

Since I was a graduate student in 1995, I have been studying and researching tourism management for ten years. He has been involved in many fields such as tourism economics, tourism industry organization, tourism policy and government regulation, regional tourism industry balance, tourism enterprise management, etc., but he pays the most attention to hotel management, especially the macro-level transformation and reform of China's state-owned hotels. and groupization have always been my most basic research objects. From the master's thesis "Research on Modern Hotel Groups" to the doctoral thesis "Research on the Transformation and Reform of China's State-owned Hotels"; from the government-oriented "Research on Beijing's "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" Tourism Accommodation Industry Policy" to the enterprise-oriented "Lingnan Research on the Spatial Layout and Format Combination of the Hotel Industry of International Enterprise Groups"; from the staged "hotel brands" and "economic hotels" to the "Annual Review of China's Hotel Industry" since 2002, I have published articles on this theme With more than a million words of research results, it seems that we can have a relatively authoritative say on the ins and outs of state-owned hotels. However, the changes of the times and the development of practice always make the opinions of scholars often seem lagging and weak. Especially since the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the state-owned assets management system has undergone tremendous changes, which has promoted the exploration and innovation of state-owned hotel management systems and operating models into a deeper and wider space. The innovative activities from government departments and hotel entrepreneurs and the resulting demand for theoretical innovation inspire every theoretical worker who is committed to industrial progress and social development to go out of the quiet study room and discover problems in the vast industrial practice. , explain the phenomenon and propose countermeasures. It was also driven by this strong sense of mission that after completing the first draft of my doctoral thesis in the spring of 2003, I began to be deeply involved in the state-owned hotel industry as a management consultant, project consulting, special speech, and even as an independent director. In the operational practice of reorganization and group management. In the process of reorganization of state-owned hotel groups that promotes the structural transformation of China's tourism industry, entrepreneurs' innovative practices that directly face reality have always educated and inspired me. As a tourism scholar, while explaining the world, I constantly put forward my views on the industry, the country, and Innovative ideas that are useful to society. Compared with "Research on the Transformation and Reform of China's State-owned Hotels" published by Tourism Education Press in 2003, this book highlights the process of China's state-owned hotels' transformation to marketization, relying on the power of self-reform to seek breakthroughs in the asset management system and business operation model effort. Some of these efforts have achieved initial success, some have failed, and many more are still being explored with difficulty. No matter what the outcome is, the entrepreneurs in the industry and politics who promote the change are respectable: in this era of great changes in which institutional arrangements and value systems are being reconstructed, and the strategic space of multinational hotel companies and private hotel capital is constantly expanding, They aim to preserve and increase the value of state-owned hotel assets, support it with a strong sense of social responsibility, shoulder the burden of history and tradition, focus on cultivating and improving national hotel brands, and pursue an inherent balance between efficiency and fairness. During countless exchanges and discussions, I often gazed at their souls and thoughts in contemplation, and wished that I lived in such a country and in such an era and had the opportunity to interact with them. **Proud of things. No matter what role state-owned hotels play in the history of the Chinese nation or what their future development pattern will be, their efforts will be worthy of the country and history.

In the process of project research, I often feel confused about the role and stance of scientific researchers. From a purely scientific standpoint, research is when scientists, driven by curiosity, explain the causes and operating rules of the phenomena they see and feel. Most cases do not involve understanding the research objects. Ethical evaluation and process intervention. However, I feel that it is difficult for Chinese social science research, especially hotel research, to be absolutely objective and purely neutral. In such an era of rapid change, we must go deep into the research subjects, help entrepreneurs and professional managers solve problems, and share with them the joy of success and the frustration of mistakes. Sometimes we will even act as advisers and even It is the role of the practitioner. It’s just that in this way, my feelings for the research object will become deeper and deeper. It seems that it is becoming more and more difficult to explain the phenomenon from an objective and rational standpoint, and it seems that I am getting further and further away from the goal of being an international mainstream scholar. . However, I have no regrets: As a Chinese tourism scholar, what achievement can be higher than walking with entrepreneurs, gaining their recognition, and leading the direction of industry development? On the contrary, for a discipline that is still in the growth stage, what we need is not to be further away from the industry, but to be closer, and closer.

This is true for academic research, and the same should be true for teaching activities. I hope to be able to personally teach and guide my students to learn instrumental rationality while also consciously constructing value rationality oriented to industrial practice and civilization evolution. After all, they are the hope of the country and the future of society. Only when our students truly recognize and deeply love China's tourism industry and hotel companies, and are willing to dedicate their youth and talents to it, will the sustainable development of China's tourism industry have a solid organizational guarantee.

Like some previous large-scale research projects, the completion of this book also requires gratitude to colleagues in the industry, academic teachers, friends, and family for their care, support, and help.

While participating in Lingnan International Enterprise Group’s industrial restructuring, strategic research and development, and Garden Hotel’s board of directors, Chairman Ms. Hua Xinfang and her colleagues at Guangzhou Garden Hotel, especially Ms. Chen Xian, Ms. Li Zhanmin, and Liang Mr. Yu and Mr. Yang Ke gave me sufficient support and care in related project research and life, which enabled me to have the opportunity to observe and experience the reorganization and operation practices of the state-owned hotel group at close range, and provided me with guidance for the completion of this project. Rich industry connotation.

Leaders of many state-owned tourism enterprise groups, such as Mr. Lu Haiyan, senior vice president of Jinjiang International, Mr. Zhang Rungang, vice president of Beijing Tourism Group, Mr. Cheng Erjun, assistant to the president of China Jinmao Group, China Eastern Airlines Mr. Zhang Hai, deputy general manager of the hotel management company of the hotel group, Mr. Ren Jing, general manager of TEDA International Hotel Group, and other tourism entrepreneurs and hotel managers who cannot be listed here also gave a lot of inspiration and guidance during the research process. help. In particular, Mr. Hai Yan, despite his busy schedule of business activities and artistic creation, took the time to read through all the research results and personally wrote the preface. This not only allowed me to appreciate the authoritative review of scholars' research results in this field by senior leaders of very large state-owned tourism groups, but also made me feel the attention and encouragement of friends in this hot summer.

My graduate students Shu Juping, Diao Zhibo, Qiao Huafang and Zhu Jing provided assistance in collecting and organizing early cases of the project research, which saved me a lot of valuable research time. And be able to allocate more energy to thinking about some metaphysical issues. They will graduate next year. I hope they can make more contributions to the prosperity and development of China's hotel industry with the talents they have revealed during their study and research.

Teacher Sun Shulan of Nankai University Press worked tirelessly and ensured the smooth publication of this book with her touching professionalism in topic planning and schedule arrangement. I would like to express my gratitude.

Finally, I would like to dedicate this little book to my daughter Yin Yin. I started researching and writing this book not long after my daughter was born. Under the careful care of my wife Guolan, the laughter and happiness in my daughter’s growth accompanied her father every day in his study life, which made me feel happy. I feel the warmth and meaning of life amidst my busy schedule and hard thinking. When I printed out this book, Yinyin was about to go to kindergarten. I hope that my daughter can think more about society and live happily in the process of learning and growing up in the future.
