Su Shi took a boat trip to the West Lake. Someone impromptuly said a couplet, Su Shi
Su Shi was a famous writer in the Northern Song Dynasty. He left behind countless famous quotes. Whether it is poetry, poetry, fu, prose, calligraphy, or painting, Su Shi has made very high achievements. It can be said that he is an all-rounder and the highest peak in Song Dynasty literature. Not only did many people look up to him, but he also influenced many of his contemporaries.
But even for such a literary giant, there are times when he is stumped by a couplet. I have to say that this first couplet is still somewhat good. It is said that one year, Su Shi held an exchange meeting with some literary masters. After the meeting, some people felt that they were not happy and invited Su Shi to visit the West Lake. Su Shi was invited to go, and a group of people were reciting poems and writing poems on the boat, which was very lively.
At this time, a servant was pouring tea for everyone. After pouring the tea, he accidentally dropped the tin teapot under the boat. Seeing this scene, someone impromptuly said a couplet: "When you travel to the West Lake, you carry a tin pot. If the tin pot falls into the West Lake, you cherish the tin pot." After the first couplet came out, everyone clapped and applauded, but after thinking hard, they couldn't think of it. The second line is coming out.
Everyone had no choice but to ask Su Shi to deal with it. Su Shi thought for a while, shook his head and said: "This couplet has the same pronunciation but different meanings. It's difficult, difficult, difficult." In the end, even Su Shi didn't get it right, and this couplet became an eternal absolute.
The words "Xihu", "Xihu" and "Xihu" in the couplet have the same pronunciation and rhyme, which is the difficulty and wonderful novelty. Unexpectedly, this couplet has been competing for hundreds of years. It was not until 1986 that "Shenyang Mass Literature and Art" used this couplet to collect the second couplet. Only then did Zhao Yanhua from Shenyang write the second couplet as follows:
Traveling to the West Lake with a tin pot, the tin pot fell into the West Lake Cherish the tin pot;
I have held up the wine bowl and passed nine bowls, but lost nine bowls. I have been missing the wine bowl for a long time.
Another person in Changde, Hunan Province corrected the second couplet, and was amazed when he heard it:
I went to Aizhai with my beloved baby and fell into Aizhai, my dear baby.
Aizhai is a tourist scenic spot in Xiangxi, Hunan Province. The mountains are so steep that taking a car up there is like riding a helicopter. Zai, son, Hunan dialect.
This second couplet is really a perfect match: West Lake is water, Aizhai is mountain, one mountain and one water, the mountains and rivers reflect each other; the tin pot is an object, the love child refers to a person, and the characters complement each other. The words "West Lake", "Xihu" and "Xihu" in the first line are very natural with the help of homophonic sounds, and the words "Aizhai", "Aizai" and "Ai Zai" in the second line are also very appropriate. The two classical Chinese function words in the last sentence of the upper and lower couplets: "Hu" and "Zai" are also well taken care of. For reference.
