Wudang Mountain Travel Notes Wudang Mountain is a famous Taoist mountain. Taoist organizations have their own beliefs and taboos. Therefore, tourists must respect the traditional customs and taboos in life when visiting Wudang Mountain Taoist Temple. They must not ignore etiquette and customs or harm etiquette and customs through careless actions, causing disputes and unhappiness. Note: Taoist priests should be called "Taoist priest" and "Master". It is forbidden to call them "monk", "Taoist priest" or even insulting titles. Kundao elders cannot be called "aunt" or "grandma", but must also be called "Taoist priest" or "master". Etiquette: When meeting a Taoist priest, the common way to salute is to hold hands, hold the right hand up to the chest with the left hand, and lower the head slightly (i.e. bow) to show respect. Avoid inappropriate etiquette such as shaking hands, hugging, touching, etc. among Taoist priests. Pay attention to your conversation: When talking to a Taoist priest, do not mention your age, date of birth, marriage, or swear words, so as not to arouse the Taoist priest's resentment. Pay attention to customs: tourists are not allowed to disturb Taoist people when they are fasting (eating), chanting sutras or meditating, and Taoist people are not allowed to respond, because Taoism has the taboo of "three things that cannot be afforded". Pay attention to your manners: Do not make loud noises, point and talk, laugh at or tamper with temple offerings and statues. It is especially forbidden to touch or point at the statues. If you encounter Taoist activities, you should stay put or leave quietly.

1. Taboos in Taoist temples: The ancient architecture of Wudang Mountain is "five miles, one palace and ten halls". Taoist temples on ancient Shinto roads were either built on cliffs or hidden in dense forests, with red walls and green tiles everywhere. There are statues of gods and goddesses in the temple. When entering a temple, don’t point your finger at the idol, no matter how stunning the shape is. Anyway, it is impolite to point at idols, and the Taoist priest on duty will kindly dissuade you. In addition, it is best not to turn your back to the idol; when entering the hall, do not step on the threshold, and do not make loud noises or talk nonsense. The Taoist temple, known as the divine realm, is a pure and empty place. There are many bonsai flowers and plants in the yard. Please don't pick them. There are many Taoist temples in the palace, some of which are where Taoist priests live and live. Please do not enter without permission. In short, the basic civilized principles in ordinary people's lives are applicable in Taoism. Taoist priests are always mysterious in the eyes of ordinary people. Their clothing, words and deeds are all strictly in accordance with Taoist norms. If you know a little bit about Wudang before coming to Wudang, it will be of great benefit to your Wudang trip. Taoist practice is for longevity, so it is best not to ask people's age. So there is a saying in China: "Monks don't tell names, Taoist priests don't tell fate." Taoist priests come in for many reasons, some are religious beliefs, some are to learn traditional culture, some are to practice martial arts, and some are seeking a kind of liberation. So, if you don’t have a strong friendship, don’t rush into asking about their life experiences. In fact, Taoist priests are ordinary people with ordinary feelings. As long as they respect each other and understand each other, it is easy to communicate. 2. Offer incense to the gods: Whether you are a pilgrim or a tourist, you should respect it in the specific Taoist cultural environment. This is called "when in town, do as the Romans do." After you enter Wudang Shinto, you must be quiet and pure in heart, and do not say any filthy and blasphemous words. If you want to burn incense and worship gods, there is a "silk burning furnace" in the palace that can fulfill your wish. Burning incense is not allowed in the main hall. If you want to bring some sacrifices to worship gods, do not bring pomegranates, plums, safflowers, chickens, dogs, etc. Wudang Taoism considers it unclean; do not eat wild geese, eels, soft-shell turtles, soft-shell turtles, cattle, dogs, pork, raw onions, leeks, garlic, ginger and other meaty and irritating foods, and do not drink alcohol. ——These are taboos for Emperor Wudang Zhenwu.
