Chengdu has a history of more than 2000 years. In BC 100, King Shu moved the capital here. At first, Chengdu was just a county center. The next year it became a metropolis. It developed so fast that the city was named: Chengdu, which literally means "becoming the capital". During the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-23 AD), the brocade trade brought great prosperity to the local area. The government set up a special office in the southwest of the city to manage the brocade trade. This city was later called Jincheng. Another name for Chengdu was given by Meng Chang (Meng Chang), the late Shu emperor, during the Five Dynamic Periods (907-960). The emperor liked hibiscus very much. He planted these flowers on the top of the city wall. The blooming hibiscus flowers make Fiona Fang colorful for miles. So Chengdu is also called Furong City.

As early as the Qin and Han Dynasties, Chengdu was already one of the five largest industrial and commercial cities in China. In the Tang Dynasty, Chengdu was a prosperous Yangzhou, a big city in the south of China. In the north, Song developed several big markets in the city. Chengdu even has night markets and special centers that specialize in selling certain goods.

Traditionally, Chengdu is famous for its numerous handicrafts: embroidery, lacquerware, silverware, pottery, bamboo, silk and silk are considered as one of the four largest silks in China. Near Du Fu's Caotang is a famous embroidery factory, where skilled workers draw embroidery with their needleless silk. Seen from both sides of the fabric, the elegant design is perfect. In other workshops, craftsmen carve intricate ivory and jade, design precious silverware, and weave bamboo into useful and beautiful objects. With China's opening to the outside world, these workshops have now become a part of tourist routes.

Chengdu is one of the birthplaces of Shu culture. Literati such as Li Bai and Su Shi have made great contributions to the development of Chengdu culture. In return, they have promoted the development of Chengdu culture with excellent literary works.

Chengdu has a pleasant layout, with wide streets and many parks. However, some old parts of the city still retain bone marrow streets and carved wooden houses. There are many places of interest to see in Chengdu. The highlights of tourists are Du Fu Caotang, Wuhou Temple, irrigation project and Baoguang Temple. Besides, local restaurants serve Sichuan cuisine, which is as famous as Cantonese cuisine. Not all Sichuan dishes are spicy.
