In 2003, he walked a five-hour mountain road to Gangshen, Guangxi. I teach in Banlie Village, a place with rugged mountain roads, inconvenient transportation, and surrounded by mountains and rivers. Almost all the children are left-behind children. However, Lu Anke integrated well into the life here and became a "fake foreigner". He would wear Chinese peasant clothes, and the children would play around him. He would go to different students' homes every week to chat and do things with the children. Farm work is like a biological father and son. Some students said to him: "Lao Lu is my father."
Some people say that Lu Anke is an invisible rich man. In fact, he has been teaching in Banlie Village for 10 years without receiving a salary or other sponsorship. All expenses come from manuscript translation fees and the 5,000 yuan sent to him by his parents every year. He spent 100 yuan at his own expense to rent teachers and buy stationery for the children. There was a better job in the county for him, but he refused for the sake of these children in the countryside.
