Zengmu Shoal is located on the southern continental shelf of the South China Sea. In terms of geological structure division, it is located in the Zengmu depression zone. Zengmu Shoal Reef Dune consists of two parts: reef core and reef wing. The reef core is the main body of the reef and transitions to the shelf seabed through the land wing. In the near-north-south section of the reef mound, it can be seen that the land core range is up to 1100 meters long, the reef top is narrow, and the reef wings are wide.

The southern part was flattened, and the gaps between the reefs were filled with biodetritus; the depressions on the reef slopes in the north were covered with biodetritus. In the nearly east-west section, the reef core and reef wings are not wide. It is a section along the short axis of the reef, and the eastern slope of the reef appears very steep.
