Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture (referred to as Linxia Prefecture) is one of the two major Hui Autonomous Prefectures in China. It was established in November 1956.
Linxia Prefecture is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, bordering Dingxi City to the east, Qinghai Province to the west, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture to the south, and Lanzhou City to the north. It is an important commodity distribution center and Sino-Tibetan trade hub in southwest Gansu.
Most areas of Linxia Prefecture have a temperate semi-arid climate. The mountainous areas in the southwest are cold and humid, the northeast is arid, and the valleys and plains are mild. There is no severe cold in winter, no scorching heat in summer, and the four seasons are distinct. The average annual temperature is 6.3°C, the highest temperature is 32.5°C, and the lowest temperature is minus 27.8°C; the average annual rainfall is 537 mm, and the evaporation is 1198 to 1745 mm; the average annual sunshine hours are 2572.3 hours; and the frost-free period is 137 days.
