Historical evolution of Hancheng ancient city

Hancheng, an ancient city, was built in Sui and Tang Dynasties. In the fourth year of Jin Dading (1 164), the city wall was built with earth, and in the thirteenth year of Chongzhen in Ming Dynasty (1640), the current prime minister of this city, Xue, proposed that local officials and gentry donate money to change the wall of Tucheng into a brick wall, which was approved by the court. The four-door gatehouse in the city is East Yellow River, West Liang Yi, Pubi Hancheng in the south and Longmen Resort in the north. In order to protect the ancient city, the municipal government made a decision to protect the old city in the early 1980 s, and built a new city to protect the old city. The beautiful Hancheng is praised by the world as a living fossil of the ancient city, because Hancheng has experienced 1300 years of ups and downs, and the style of the ancient city remains the same. What Hancheng ancient city looks like today is inseparable from people's protection of it.

In the late 1980s, especially after Hancheng became a national historical and cultural city, when dealing with the relationship between economic development and cultural relics protection, Hancheng paid attention to long-term interests so as not to destroy cultural relics. First, strengthen the maintenance and protection of ancient buildings in Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, such as Confucian Temple and Chenghuang Temple. The second is to focus on protecting the "one-stop" street pattern. That is to say, the ancient pagoda of the Jin Dynasty on the high platform in the north of the old city is the leader, the ancient street Jincheng Street in the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties is the dragon body in the middle, the ancient Liu Yuqiao is the dragon tail in the south, and the streets and lanes on both sides are the dragon claws, keeping the traditional style of the thin roof with blue bricks and gray tiles unchanged. The buildings around the "one-stop" also require coordination with it to show the overall effect of traditional style. In order to better protect the overall ancient features of the old city, Hancheng began the development and construction of the new city as early as the late 1980s, and local governments and departments at all levels in the old city will move out one after another.

At the same time, in order to maintain the prosperity of the old city, a number of new commercial and cultural buildings have been built. Now, the new old city is only connected by a ramp. Above the new city are all kinds of modern buildings, while in the old city, there is an ancient, elegant and intriguing Millennium "Ancient City Museum". Hancheng has specially set up a famous city protection management office and a cultural relics tourism development coordination leading group, and adopted a series of measures to implement the reward system of "protecting civilized households in ancient cities"; "Fixed-point management" is implemented in the restoration of residential buildings, and the traditional skills mastered by ancient builders are passed on to the primitive. In addition to focusing on the protection of the urban pattern, water system, bridges, streets and other hardware measures of the ancient city, we also pay attention to the protection of intangible culture such as traditional art, folk customs, dialects, festivals, beliefs, dishes, values and moral norms. In 200 1 year, Hancheng invested 6 million yuan to lay a stone slab road and dismantle cobweb wires and buried cables. The whole project will start in March, 20001year and be completed by the end of1year. At this point, Jincheng Street in Hancheng restored its historical features in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.

At present, Hancheng has a solid foundation in both hardware and software in applying for "World Cultural Heritage". Accord to that three criteria for listing as "world cultural heritage"-one is the cultural or natural heritage with unique value in the world (Hancheng has unique architecture in Yuan dynasty); Second, the enthusiasm of the local government and people to protect the heritage (the protection and maintenance of the ancient city, the local government all moved out to build a new city); Third, the extent to which the coordinated and uncoordinated environment related to this heritage has been rectified (hancheng city government has done a very good job in this respect). Hancheng basically meets the above three conditions. It is precisely because of hancheng city's leadership's deepening understanding of the protection of the ancient city that Hancheng people have a special liking for the ancient city, and the ancient city of Hancheng can be carefully cared for and so brilliant as it is today.
