Where in Europe is Portugal located?

Portugal is in Europe, located in southwest Europe.

Portugal, the full name of the Portuguese Republic (Portuguese: República Portuguesa), is a republican country located in southwest Europe. It borders Spain to the east, which is also on the Iberian Peninsula, and Portugal to the west and south is the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to the territory on the European continent, the Azores and Madeira Islands in the Atlantic Ocean are also Portuguese territories. Cabo da Roca, west of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is the westernmost point on the European continent.

Since the 16th century, Portugal has played an active role in the Age of Discovery and has become an important maritime power. In its heyday, Portugal even signed the Treaty of Tordesillas with Spain, intending to carve up the world. In modern Western history, Portugal is one of the birthplaces of history and culture. From the 16th to the 18th century, Portugal and Spain became the most powerful global empires that influenced the world. Among the existing European countries, Portugal has a long history of colonization. Since the capture of Huda in North Africa in 1415 and the transfer of power in Macau in 1999 (there is also a calculation that it ended with the independence of East Timor in 2002), colonial activities lasted for nearly six hundred years. It once included part of the territory of 53 countries in the world. The official language Portuguese has become the common mother tongue of 240 million people and the eighth largest language in the world.

Portugal has tourism and a market economy. Portugal is a member of the European Union and one of the founding members of the euro. It is also a member of international organizations such as the United Nations, NATO, and the World Trade Organization.
