Nanluoguxiang has changed dramatically! What are the differences between the old and new Nanluo?
I remember once traveling to Xi’an. The guide recommended that you must go to Xi’an’s Muslim Street. After walking down a few alleys, you actually felt like you were visiting Nanluogu Alley.
Later, when I was chatting with a taxi driver about where the most authentic snacks in Xi’an were, the driver joked: “Huimin Street is a lie to you foreigners. We Xi’an people rarely go to Muslim Street to find delicious food. Yes, let’s do this. If you want to eat authentic rice noodles, I will recommend a place to you..."
Yes, in China, almost every city has a street. There are crowds of people there, all of them tourists. In the name of the old street and in the name of literature and art, they sell the same handicrafts wholesale from Yiwu. The snacks are also the same stinky tofu, grilled squid, octopus balls and various milk teas. In the past, Nanluogu Alley is such a place that attracts countless tourists, but old Beijingers think it has changed and never want to go again~
Why is it said to be the "former" Nanluogu Alley? Because from October 28th to December 12th last year, Nanluogu Alley in Beijing began to be closed for reconstruction. During the reconstruction period, I passed by Nanluogu Alley countless times. I always looked at Nanluogu Alley that was closed due to construction. I can't help but look forward to "Will Nanluogu Lane be a little different when it appears again?"
I have been looking forward to the time when Nanluogu Lane welcomes tourists again, so I quickly took my camera to take a look at Nanluogu Lane. After shopping all over Nanluogu Alley, I have summarized the 4 major differences between the old and new Nanluogu Alley below. If you haven’t visited the renovated Nanluogu Alley, come and experience it now~
There are fewer online celebrity shops and a Beijing flavor. The children are thicker
Difference 1
Although the former Nanluogu Lane was an ancient lane with a history of nearly 800 years, the whole street has become a wholesale "assembly line" street. There are 10-yuan shops and several stalls selling stinky tofu and octopus balls. Tourists from all over the world cannot hear the unique cries of old Beijing alleys, taste the quintessence of Peking Opera, various cafes, cultural bars, cultural and creative The shop and even palace cheese have almost become synonymous with Nanluoguxiang.
Before renovation
Nanluo Ancient Alley after renovation: Corn juice, fried durian, fried yogurt, salt crispy chicken, stinky tofu, fried squid rings and other "Internet celebrity" snacks No more, replaced by candy blowers, flower turners, dough kneaders...
After the renovation
The total number of shops has also been reduced from 235 to 154, which is less 81 homes! Low-quality souvenirs have been removed, and more shops with cultural connotations have opened.
Walk 20 meters from the south gate of Nanluogu Lane and you will see a folk culture center.
In the past, there were two small shops selling snacks. Compared with the small shops that make money every day, the cultural center is purely non-profit and displays New Year paintings, sugar figures and other old Beijing customs.
The cultural center will regularly change some exhibition items, and gradually introduce richer old Beijing culture and hutong culture.
Walking inside the cultural center, there are old cameras from different periods on display, which are very novel~ There are even teapot hats, and I feel the ancient atmosphere~
In the alley Walking around, the previously covered cultural relic "Level Point Stone" also revealed its original appearance. After getting rid of the excessive snack shops and carrying out protective repairs, the "authentic flavor" of Nanluogu Alley is back
The streets are wider, the tiles have been changed, and they are much cleaner
p>Difference 2
Walking around the alley, the ground has been replaced with brand-new blue-gray mosaic stone tiles. Most of the shops have gray walls and brick-red wooden doors. There are no graffiti on the walls.
Nanluogu Alley, with its blue bricks, gray tiles and wooden door frames, is closer to the impression of Nanluogu Alley. The shops along the street have retro designs and are no longer just colorful signs under the eaves.
Many old shops have been given new looks, and a variety of snacks are now available
Difference 3
In the original Nanluo, there were many small shops that sold all kinds of goods. , several small storefronts side by side piled things at the door, and the environment along the street was messy. This kind of small shop may seem inconspicuous, but it is very profitable. In this renovation, various small storefronts must now be combined into one store. "One photo, one store, one door, one plaque."
Hong Kong Drink Town and Grandma Cuttlefish Lai (a stall that sells large intestines wrapped in small intestines) have been merged into one store.
This Hong Kong drinking town also has a new look. The store has been renovated and the style is much simpler~
This store with the brand name "Laowu" also hides a variety of Snack and milk tea stall~The original 3 small stalls have become "one shop"
Guess where this is? When I walked by by accident, I thought it was a newly opened store. But after taking a closer look, I realized that it was the original Niai Cupcakes. The store has been renovated. Comparing it with the previous store, does it make people more tempted to walk in?
before
after
and
Out of curiosity, I went in and ordered two cup cakes to try, thinking the taste would be different. Changes. After trying it, I found that although the store is not the original store, the taste is still the same. It is difficult to define whether it is delicious or not, but foodies who have a sweet tooth will probably love it very much~
The number of new specialty stores has increased.

New store 1: Jingyun Fanghua Fan Club
In Maoer Hutong, Nanluogu Lane I discovered this newly opened store and was attracted by the name of the store outside. It was rarely called "*** Fan Club". At first I thought it was a rehearsal base for famous Peking Opera actors. When I opened the door, I saw that it was A "Peking Opera-themed" hotel.
Peking opera masks are hung on the walls, and the interior decoration is mainly red. The tables and stools are all carved wood, and even the ceiling is decorated with red ribbons. Although the "Peking Opera" played in the store can be heard I don’t understand, but it has a different flavor~
There is a retro private room on the second floor decorated in a "Huanzhugege" style. The calligraphy and painting above are the headgear needed to wear when singing Peking Opera. I heard it is called "Liangpaozi" menu It is also very conspicuous, like an ancient edict, making people feel like they are dreaming back to the Tang Dynasty.
There are not many types of dishes, but the taste is very good. The main specialty is mutton. The boss recommends the mutton soup and mutton siu mai. Beijing flavor ~ This meal is delicious!

New store 2: Eight-level Taoist records Guoshihui
Less than 200 meters away from the south gate of Nanluogu Lane, I found this hotpot and barbecue restaurant with a retro appearance but very fashionable food. The reason why it is called hotpot and barbecue is that Hot pot and barbecue are combined into one pot, with the left side being grilled and the right side being rinsed, killing two birds with one stone.
For the hot pot, I ordered a fish pot with sour soup, which was served with Longli fish. I ordered four kinds of barbecue, namely snowflakes, tender beef, chicken wings, and pork belly. Although the photos look very tempting, But I only gave the dish 60 points. Maybe it was because the barbecue was too greasy and the smell of hot pot was too strong. After one meal, the smell of the clothes took three days to dissipate. It felt like even my scalp was soaked in oil... ···
However, the restaurant’s environment ranks very high on Nanluoguxiang Street. The store is large and the decoration style is very hip-hop. The dining pot is also imported from Taiwan, which is rare. Grilled on the left and rinsed on the right.

New store 3: Matcha shop
Halfway through Nanluogu Alley, I found a very Japanese matcha shop. The decoration style is just like the name of the shop. Everywhere you look, It's green and looks very comfortable and clean.
The Kumamon bear who just entered the store is also very cute, adding a touch of cuteness to this somewhat "frigid" Japanese shop ~ The store is not big, with only 2 small tables inside. If there are many tourists, it will be difficult to turn around.
We ordered two specialties of the store, a cup of cherry blossom tea and a cup of matcha. After the clerk brought the drinks in disposable cups to us, we immediately lost the urge to take pictures, especially For the Sakura drink, I originally wanted to put it in a glass cup and take a photo to post on my friends circle, but the clerk said: "There are only disposable cups..." Well, I decided to deduct 10 points for this appearance~ p>

New store 4: Crab roe soup dumplings
When I was almost walking to the north entrance of Nanluogu Lane, I discovered this "Crab Roe Soup Dumplings" which had never appeared in Nanluogu Lane before. Seeing that it was so far away, there was a long queue. As a foodie, even in the severe cold , and I must resolutely wait in line to try one~
After queuing for a long time, I finally got the steaming crab roe soup dumplings that were just out of the pot. When I asked about the price, they were 20 yuan for 5 pieces. , Oops, it’s not cheap, but just to try it out, I bought it!
To be honest, the appearance was absolutely amazing when I was in the cage, but when the clerk put it in the disposable lunch box, my appetite seemed to be gone. Hey, I can’t afford to control my appearance~
To be honest, the buns were quite fragrant when I took the first bite, but they were a bit greasy when I took the second bite. I don’t know if it was because they were cooled or because my taste is too picky. Anyway, I ate three of them. , threw one away...

New Store 5: Damo
Nanluogu Alley has reopened to welcome customers. The changes are not only the renovation of the stores on the main road, but also some stores have been permanently closed due to "breaking holes in the wall", such as fried beans. A whole row of restaurants in the alley. There used to be an izakaya here called Goemon, and the same Japanese owner opened a new restaurant called Daruma in Ju'er Alley. The menu has changed.
Because I am addicted to Onmyoji, I accidentally found this restaurant and was a little excited. I went to eat! Maybe you can get an SSR! It would be nice to give a white Dharma as a gift!
If Dharma is not open, you can’t find him. There is no signboard, only a big canvas is hung outside the door when it is open, with the word Dharma written in big letters. Go up the stairs on the right hand side of the door to the second floor. There is a long bar table with the same layout and style. People who are familiar with Nanluo will say when they come in, it looks like Goemon. Well, that’s right.
Mainly makes pot dishes, such as Dharma pot, which is not big and can be eaten by one person. The vegetables slowly become sweet, and the sound of bubbling sounds warm, just like the environment of this store. Same.
There are also cheese pots and cream pots that you can try.
The chicken salad is a must-try. It is served in an extra-large "basin" and can be stirred casually without splashing out. It's so cool! The fried chicken steak is larger than expected. The chicken is tender and not oily. Mixed with sweet and sour sauce and vegetables, it tastes particularly refreshing, which is a great bonus.
Dharma doesn’t do yakiniku. Fortunately, the original store did just that, and it was a wise transformation. The original Goemon was not outstanding, but it was memorable and had a feeling of catching people. Now that feeling of Daruma is still there, the production is much better. The boss also has a shop, the takoyaki shop at Beixinqiao Exit B, which is also sold in the Daruma shop.
After leaving the door, it’s time to reveal the result. Summoning, um, an SR is not bad ~ happy!

After visiting Nanluo City ers decided to take a photo together, and let everyone take a look at the newly paved bricks in Nanluogu Lane (you can see our "broad" body shape from the shadow...)
Nanluogu Lane After walking around the alleys, Xiao Mi recalled the Nanluogu Alley in the past, looked at the current Nanluogu Alley, and summarized the four differences before and after the reconstruction. To be honest, the reconstructed Nanluogu Alley is more close to what I imagined as an "ancient city small town". The "street" is what it should be~
Finally, Xiao Mi wants to say: It is not easy for this centuries-old quaint deep alley to survive the changes in our city. This time of renovation and construction, It seems to have regained a bit of the flavor of old Beijing. Do you like this Nanluogu Lane?
By the way, this time, Xiao Mi only visited the main alley and some of the branch alleys of the renovated Nanluogu Lane. I heard that there are many delicious restaurants hidden in the branch alleys. If you are there, I’ve always been in love with this little store. Leave me a message below. How about we go explore the store together another day?
