What are the fun places in Qizi Bay? Introduction to Xiangqi Bay

Hainan is people’s favorite tourist destination in summer. Since Hainan is a tourist destination, people often associate Hainan with tropical rainforests. But there is actually a desert in Hainan, which is Qizi Bay in Changjiang, Hainan. Chess Bay is not very big, but here you can enjoy the spectacular desert.

A corner of Qizi Bay

Qizi Bay is located on the west coast of Hainan Island, west of Changjiang, 3 kilometers north of Changhua Town and 55 kilometers from Shilu Town, Changjiang County. This bay borders Changhua Ridge to the east and the sea to the west. It is about 20 kilometers long from east to west, S-shaped, with many rocks and white sand waves. The water in the bay is very clear, the sand is fine, soft, and as white as silver. On the coast, there are strange peaks and rocks, green trees, brilliant mountain flowers, clear spring water, bright sunshine, and spring-like weather all year round. It is a rare natural bathing place and an ideal place for light and sand bathing. The rocks are rugged, colorful, dense trees, green grass, clear springs, silver beaches connected with the blue sea, making people feel relaxed and happy.

Qizi Bay Tourist Resort is a tourism planning project of Summit International Planning and Design Company in 2010. On August 25, 2016, Qizi Bay was included in the fifth batch of national marine parks by the State Oceanic Administration.

Having said so much, I believe what you want to know most now is that Hainan Island is located in the tropical monsoon and subtropical monsoon climate zones, with abundant precipitation every year. Theoretically, southern my country should also have a subtropical high desert climate. However, due to the influence of monsoon climate, these areas not only do not have the characteristics of desert climate, but have become world-famous "Jiangnan Water Towns". So why does the Qiziwan area of ??Hainan Island, which is also in the center of the monsoon climate zone, have the characteristics of a desert climate?

Geographically speaking, the most important factor determining local climate is precipitation. The order decreases from ocean, tropical rain forest, grassland, Gobi and desert. Some desert areas even have no precipitation all year round. The annual rainfall in Hainan Qizi Bay is 700-900 mm, which is relatively low in tropical and subtropical monsoon climate zones, but does not reach abnormal levels. However, what you may not know is that the evaporation in this area is as high as 2,500 millimeters, which is comparable to sub-Saharan Africa, which is quite unusual.

Climate of Qizi Bay

Next, let’s look at topographic factors. Qizi Bay is located at the westernmost tip of Hainan Island. The surrounding altitude is higher and the beach is at a lower altitude. Geographically, there are three main types of rainfall: orographic precipitation, frontal rain and convective rain. For Hainan, there is a special "typhoon".

Qizi Bay is located on the west side of Hainan Island. There is a tall Wuzhishan mountain range in the center of Hainan Island. If water vapor is transported from the South China Sea, it will often be "intercepted" by the Wuzhishan Mountains, preventing the water vapor from continuing westward for effective precipitation in Qizi Bay on the west side. On the contrary, after crossing the top of Wuzhi Mountain, these airflows continue to sink westward. Not only do these downdrafts not produce precipitation, they also make the air drier and increase evaporation. However, if the water vapor comes from the Beibu Gulf side, it will not be able to form orographic precipitation on Qiziwan Beach due to the low altitude.
