Introduction of Cangyuan Wengding Primitive Tribal Tourist Area

The "Wengding Primitive Tribe" scenic spot in Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County is located in the west of Cangyuan County, about 33 kilometers away from the county seat, and it is an administrative village in Meng Jiao Ethnic Township. "Wengding" means "a place shrouded in clouds". There are 103 households with more than 500 people in Onding Dazhai, all of whom are Wa and Onding. A stockade consists of stockade gates, houses, stockades, sacred forests and cemeteries.

Throughout the ages, the Wa people have regarded wooden drums as spiritual objects and regarded them as heavenly artifacts. They believe that knocking on wooden drums can help them drive away evil spirits and bring good luck. There was an emergency like a war. Warn the crowd with wooden drums; Hunters who catch wild animals such as tigers and leopards also beat drums to show their respect. In festivals or religious sacrifices, wooden drums are even more inspiring instruments. When people beat the drum body with a big wooden stick, they can make four different sounds, which are powerful and staggered in rhythm, forming a specific "drum language". Drumming is a grand activity that everyone in the village should take part in. After the 1970s, the wooden drum became the most representative musical instrument of the Wa nationality and entered the literary stage in the new period. In 2006, Mubu was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage protection list.

The Wa people in the village still follow the patriarchal clan system, and the villagers live together under their own surnames. In the village, you can also find the Wa nationality's ancient and unique marriage and love customs, and feel the infinite charm of sowing festival, new rice festival and village protection festival. Wengzhai is a natural ecological village that combines the primitive religion of Wa nationality with southern Buddhism and Maasai nationality.
