What does Australian 485 visa mean?

The 485 visa is an 18-month temporary residence visa for graduates. Students applying for this visa are required to study a major that is listed in the Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List (SOL), and the occupation must be a 60-point or 50-point nominated occupation.

Students who obtain the 485 visa mean that they can stay in the local area for one and a half years after graduation. Students can find jobs, study, travel, or complete a professional year. This course is a plus for skilled immigrants. The professional training course lasts for one year.

If a student’s immigration conditions meet the Australian immigration standards, they can apply for an Australian permanent resident visa at any time.

After the implementation of new rules in 2016, international graduates holding a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from an Australian university can stay in Australia for up to 4 years (i.e. PSW). Note: 485 visa applicants can only apply for a 485 visa once, whether TR or PSW.
