The Game That Cannot Be Said, a Lifetime of Healing Childhood

"The Game That Cannot Be Said"

France | Plot | Somebody 8.0

This is another film adapted from the director's own experience, directed and starred by her herself. Very similar to "Letter Story".

Audra is an eight-year-old girl who is the most talented child in the dance class. She has dreamed of becoming a ballet principal since she was a child. Her parents had a close friend, Jimmy, who always wanted to play the "tickle" game with her and told her it was a "secret that cannot be told." As an adult, Audra looked back on her career as a dancer and the whirlpool in her life, and realized what happened to her as a child...

Jimmy, who has three sons, likes the well-behaved Audra very much. Let Audra play doll so he can dress her up. He urged her into the bathroom to start the game, saying things like, "I'm disappointed," "You're hurting my feelings," and "Come on, it won't be long." She couldn't refuse.

Audra tried asking for help, but she was a mother who couldn't control her emotions. When she was about 10 years old, she was sexually assaulted for the first time. When she went home to wash her bloody underwear, her mother thought it was her period and ignored her several attempts to speak. And when she finally overcame her fear as an adult and sued Jimmy, her mother's comments were "You are too young, you may have remembered it wrong" and "Jimmy is handsome and handsome, and he doesn't look like a pervert". She even considered that Jimmy would be raped. What do you think of your wife, son, and grandson? It’s too suffocating?

The film restores Audra’s story through fragmented memories and interactions with a psychiatrist as an adult, explaining that her dance is always Filled with the origin of her anger, and her fear of intimacy, the reason why she numbed herself with a chaotic life and a hard shell. There are a large number of solo dance scenes in the film, which hint at Audra's psychological journey, from the painful catharsis in class, to the firm resistance after suing Jimmy, and finally the release and self-acceptance during the street dance, which is very... Artistic and impactful.

It is still a commonplace topic. It is never too early to educate a child about sex. It is better to teach her/him earlier how to protect herself/him, how to refuse harm, and how to deal with harm, than to let her/him bear the indelible harm. Live your life.
