Why is there no water in Hongqi Canal?

First, the current red flag The Zhanghe River, the source of the canal, has basically dried up due to drought in recent years, leaving no water to divert.

Secondly, even in the flood season, the upstream Shanxi Province also built many water conservancy facilities in the later period. The water from the upstream must be allocated and used by others first. The little water we have now can only be saved with the coordination of the central government, otherwise there would be no water at all.

The Zhang River at the eastern foot of Fazhi Mountain in Shanxi Province is the water source of the Hongqi Canal. The upper reaches of the Zhang River consists of two tributaries, the Qingzhang River and the Zhuozhang River. In the 1960s, the water of Zhuozhang River was basically only used by Hongqiqu.

However, since the late 1960s, 3 large reservoirs and more than 80 small and medium-sized reservoirs have been built in Shanxi. Henan and Hebei provinces have built Yuejin Canal, Dayuefeng Canal, There are countless Xiaoyuefeng Canal and its irrigation areas, small water diversion projects and hydropower stations. Due to the lack of unified planning and management, the contradiction between supply and demand of Zhanghe River water resources has become increasingly prominent.
