Chagan Lake, formerly known as Chaganpao and Hanhe, is called "Chagannur" in Mongolian, which means a white and holy lake. It is mostly located in the Qiangarros Mongolian Autonomous County in the northwest of Jilin Province. Within the territory, it borders Qian'an County to the west and Da'an City to the north.
