Influencing factors of inbound tourism

1. Environmental issues

When it comes to environmental issues, the first one to bear the brunt is smog. A few years ago, Chai Jing's "Under the Dome" aroused strong public attention to smog. However, some people pointed out that Chai Jing's spirit was commendable, but she lacked professional knowledge and made some "taken for granted" mistakes.

In 2014, the China Tourism Academy released a report stating that haze has become one of the main factors affecting my country’s inbound tourism. However, based on the data on inbound tourism in 2015 and 2016, combined with the haze control situation in the past two years, the haze may not have much impact on inbound tourism.

2. Exchange rate

According to common sense, the appreciation of the RMB is detrimental to the development of inbound tourism; the depreciation of the RMB is beneficial to the development of inbound tourism. From a theoretical point of view, there is no question.

However, some experts pointed out that in fact, small changes in tourism prices have little impact on the number of inbound tourists and tourism foreign exchange earnings. Changes in the RMB exchange rate will not have a significant impact on inbound tourism unless it exceeds 10%.

3. Visa

The number of Chinese tourists choosing to travel abroad has been increasing in recent years. But for foreigners, the situation is not so optimistic. The relevant person in charge of Ctrip said that many foreigners do not need a visa to visit many countries in the world, but they must apply for a visa to come to China. The procedures are not only cumbersome, but also expensive, which is a major negative factor restricting the development of inbound tourism.

In September 2016, at the World Tourism Summit Forum of the 22nd World Route Development Conference, Zhu Shanzhong, Executive Director of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, pointed out that compared with the rapid development of outbound tourism, the growth rate of inbound tourism is relatively low. Slow down, mainly due to factors such as visas and high ticket prices.

4. Tickets for scenic spots

Many reports point out that compared with tickets for foreign tourist attractions, the ticket prices for most scenic spots in China are on the high side. Many scenic spots abroad do not offer tickets, or only charge a nominal ticket price.

Some media pointed out that "China's tourism industry is still in an extensive development stage, and there is still a phenomenon of over-reliance on the ticket economy." This often leads to high ticket prices, but the actual service and experience are not in place. , giving tourists the psychological experience of being "fooled".

In addition, some scenic spots ignore foreign tourists in certain details. It is understood that some inbound tourism products that include domestic scenic spots require ID card + SMS verification when picking up tickets, which directly excludes foreign tourists.

5. Infrastructure

Among the infrastructure related to tourism, toilets should be the most important. Due to differences in cultural concepts and living habits, toilets and squat toilets seem to many foreigners to be symbols of civilization and backwardness. In fact, this is just a matter of habit. But on the one hand, we have to take care of domestic tourists, and on the other hand, we have to consider foreign tourists. How to balance it seems not easy.

As early as the beginning of the "toilet revolution", studies pointed out that the toilet situation in many scenic spots in China has affected inbound tourism. According to the China Inbound Tourism Report released by Google in 2015, the most worrying issues for foreign tourists when traveling to China include toilets and customer rip-offs. In the early years, the toilets in China's scenic spots did leave a bad impression on many foreign tourists. For rural tourism, the construction of toilets is a top priority.
