Yantong Temple
Yantong Temple was historically known as Yuantong Temple and Yuantong Temple, and local villagers called it Big Temple, Wumo Temple, and Ten Scenery Temples. temple. Yuantong Temple was founded in the late Tang Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It experienced several ups and downs during this period. According to the memories of local elders, there were traces of temples and temples at the beginning of liberation, and the ancient ginkgo trees are famous far and near. Wujiang people commonly call it the "Ten Scenery" tree. On the first and fifteenth day of the lunar month and the Buddha's birthday, believers would burn incense below. There are two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees in the temple, located between the Tianwang Hall and the Main Hall. The tree is more than 1,200 years old (in 2005, it was identified by Suzhou agriculture and forestry experts that the ancient tree is more than 980 years old) and has been included in the Jiangsu Province Ancient and Valuable Trees list. According to legend, in the early years of the Ming Dynasty, the founding hero Chang Yuchun came to Yuantong Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha, and tied the BMW he was riding to this ginkgo tree. Now, the two ancient ginkgo trees are hollow, with lush side branches and spiral branches. They are antique and beautiful, which is a great beauty of Yuantong Temple.
