The biggest challenge for hotels managed by foreigners in China is the difference in management concepts and practices between the two teams. In this issue, we interviewed Ms. Hong Luoshan, the chief representative of American Hotel Association in China. Hongluoshan was born in the Philippines and later settled in Canada. Her grandmother, Lin Daixiu Rong, is the president of the Chinese Women's Association of the Philippines and an outstanding representative of overseas Chinese. When I was very young, my grandmother always said, "Never forget that you are from China." . Hongluoshan has always hoped to have the opportunity to do something for China. In 2002, an accidental opportunity made Hongluoshan bring international hotel industry training and standards to China. Despite the difficulties, the international hotel training system she brought has laid a solid foundation and is being recognized by more and more peers.

Hongluoshan believes that tourists want to experience an experience, but it is more important to feel the beautiful communication between people through cultural exchange opportunities such as food and interpersonal communication. Hongluoshan has been engaged in the development of Canadian tourism human resources for many years. She knows that the implementation of international standard industry training in China must be supported by industry, government and educational institutions. Many hotel leaders taught themselves the college courses brought by Hongluoshan; At the same time, senior managers in some industries, including many local hotel managers in China, have also obtained professional qualification certification through their own efforts. However, Hongluoshan is not satisfied. Not long ago, they cooperated with the State Education Commission and the labor department to open their doors to more people and expand their plans to better meet the needs of the industry.

World Hotel: What prompted the Institute of Education of the American Hotel Association to enter the hotel market in China? What is the current educational model of the Institute of Education of the American Hotel Association in China?

Hong Luoshan: In May 2002, when I had the opportunity to come to China as China's appointed agent of the Institute of Education of the American Hotel Association, I had already talked with several potential cooperative schools in China. At that time, domestic tourism colleges had adopted the courses of American Hotel Association Institute of Education for more than ten years, knowing the global popularity and recognition of the brand, so I thought that only the system of American Hotel Association Institute of Education was suitable for the hotel industry in China, and adopted the standards of American Hotel Association Institute of Education in 2002. There are several ways for our education and training in China: first, according to the actual situation of hotel employees, with the purpose of flexibility, freedom and variety of choices, we have set up two ways to facilitate people in the industry to learn: first, self-study, convenient work, and learning while using; The second is to participate in training courses; Students can learn according to their own needs and improve their own quality. Improve the management level and service level of the hotel.

In China, the training and education system of the Institute of Education of American Hotel Association is comprehensive and systematic. For the industry, our qualification certification includes employees in all fields of the hotel industry, from general manager to supervisor and front-line employees. Recently, we also launched the qualification certification that hotel owners have been seeking-Registered Hotel Professional Investor (CLO). Different from other qualifications, the qualification of the Institute of Education of the American Hotel Association must meet the following three conditions: post experience, college degree or above, and global professional examination of the Institute of Education of the American Hotel Association. Our standards are very strict, because we want to protect the value of people who have obtained our qualifications. We also provide academic courses for students and employees, including internationally accepted textbooks and exams. The value of these courses lies in that when you pass the globally standardized course examination, you will get a globally unified certificate. Our system not only aims at students and social workers, but also provides training and certification for students' teachers (CHE and CHI). Our academic course examinations can be recognized by many world-renowned universities-the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Asia, Canada and so on.

As soon as we entered China, our system was supported by China Tourist Hotel Association, cooperated with many provincial and municipal tourism bureaus, and certified and trained many hotel groups. In the future, we will make persistent efforts to provide the hotel with the latest management standards and contribute to improving the overall management level of the hotel.

World Hotel: As a foreigner, do you feel cultural conflict when you get along with colleagues and friends in China?

Hong Luoshan: I always remember that my grandmother once said to me, "Remember that you are from China!" Although we are the fourth generation overseas Chinese in the Philippines. Although I have lived in Canada for more than 30 years, I think there is an idea in my blood to continue the work she has started. Perhaps it was this idea that brought me back to China.

Leaving home means being away from the family you will miss. I stayed alone in China for two years, but I never felt lonely, because I was always busy with my career. Being far away from home also means being separated from friends, but fortunately I have established friendship with my colleagues here. I am very westernized, and cultural conflicts will naturally occur in the process of getting along, but the important thing is that we have learned to accept different views and how to get along in life. I hope one day I can write a book about how westerners and China people look at problems from different angles. I hope others can learn from it and make use of it, so that you don't have to experience "growing pains" like foreigners in China.
