History of Daxigou, Huocheng County

Daxigou is located in the west of Tianshan Mountains. In the early years, it was an ancient plank road used by Genghis Khan's army to march eastward.

The famous Daxigou Fushou Mountain Scenic Area is surrounded by undulating mountains and pleasant scenery. It is the only wild sour plum (scientific name: cherry plum) distribution area in Asia. Daxigou Temple, also known as Fushoushan Temple, was the largest Taoist activity venue in Xinjiang during the Qing Dynasty. Judging from the mountain topography and Feng Shui, Fushou Mountain is like an armchair, facing south, with nine dragon veins looking back on the left and a tiger bowing its head on the right. Surrounded on the left and right, it is truly a geomantic treasure. There is no record of when this temple was first built, but it is said to be thousands of years old. Fang Zhizai: In 1221, Qiu Chuji, the founder of the famous Taoist Longmen sect, was summoned by Genghis Han from the mainland to the Western Regions. He was specifically invited by the Taoist priests of Fushou Mountain to preach at Fushou Mountain for several days. In 1763, the Qing government funded the construction of 37 Buddhist niches in Fushou Mountain, including 3 Sanqing Halls, 3 Sanhuang Halls, 3 Jade Emperor Temples, 3 Guandi Temples, 1 Jade Emperor Pavilion, and Yuegong Temple. One is Kuixing Pavilion, one is Wenchang Emperor Pavilion, one is Qiuzu Temple, one is Avalokitesvara Pavilion, one is Thousand-Hand Buddha, one is Dragon King Temple, one is Shan Temple, and one is Bodhidharma Patriarch Pavilion. ***37 rooms. In the past, the place was very prosperous, with large and small temples nestled among mountains and rivers, and connected to each other. At the beginning, there was the Daxigou Temple Fair, which lasted for 17 days from June 20 on the lunar calendar. During the temple fair, opera singers, buyers, performers, people offering incense, and people paying their respects come here from all over Xinjiang. Very lively.

Beekeeping in Daxigou has a long history. From the late Qing Dynasty to the Russian war in the 1920s, many people and Russians kept bees here.
