Reminiscing about my college life

I never left my hometown of Tianjin from childhood to college.

During the college entrance examination, I actually didn’t pay much attention to or understand my scores or aspirations. I ignorantly underestimated my college entrance examination score by 30 points, and then foolishly chose Tianjin Normal University because I wanted to study social psychology.

Of course, I know that my scores should not allow me to be admitted to the social psychology major. As my second choice, I applied for the tourism management major in the College of History and Culture.

As expected, I was admitted to tourism management. At that time, it should have been the bottom line of the second book, which was stuck in my own estimation.

In fact, I am very happy to be admitted to the tourism management program. What I was thinking at the time was that traveling would be great and you could play everywhere!

I didn’t expect that I would spend my first year at the Yangcun campus.

Every Sunday afternoon, I start carrying my schoolbag and food, and take the 611 bus from the city to Yangcun. Remember clearly that it is easier to get a seat if you get on the bus before 4pm on Sunday. If you delay too late, you may have to stand all the way until you get off the bus, which takes about an hour.

Throughout the year, spring, summer, autumn and winter, time in the car is usually spent listening to music. Even though I occasionally get motion sickness, I still insist on going home every week. At that time, I thought the place in Tukara was boring. Being able to go home every week is a sense of superiority for me, a native of Tianjin.

Soon, we were promoted to sophomore year. Returned to the embrace of the urban campus - Liulitai Campus. It is also a small campus the same size as a middle school, but it is more convenient to go home. I can ride my bike there and back.

In my junior year, the university town was built. Tianjin Normal University, University of Science and Technology, University of Technology. We all became neighbors together.

At that time, our Normal University only retained the main campus of Balitai Office, and many other colleges and students were all moved to the new University City campus. The school suddenly became lively and interesting.

Unexpectedly, the school has an atmosphere, but the time I spend effectively on campus is getting less and less. I have no memory of the dormitory where I lived during my junior year. I just called my classmates to confirm that I actually lived on campus during my junior year.

In my senior year, I said goodbye to the dormitory life completely. There are fewer classes and more internship life. I am busy running towards social life every day.

Thinking about it now, some of the ideas and awareness of what kind of life I didn’t want to live were established at that time.

Having worked as a tour guide and lost money, I knew I didn’t want to work so hard to make money, not to mention the possibility of losing money. It was quite stressful. This is different from what I thought of traveling and playing around.

After working as a museum interpreter guide, I realized that the fun of visiting a museum and working there are completely different things. As a viewer, I can't find the pleasure of looking at antiquities and appreciating culture in my work as a museum interpreter.

I wanted to do something less conventional and creative. When I didn’t know what to do, I got a job opportunity as a volunteer teacher of Chinese as a foreign language. The workplace is Thailand.

So, we participated in the Chinese teacher training intensively, but did not have time to take the exam; and because the school started relatively early in Thailand, we were all arranged to complete the thesis defense in advance and get the diploma and graduation certificate in advance. Academic certificate, I didn’t have time to attend the final graduation ceremony. I still regret not having the chance to throw my bachelor's hat in front of the teaching building.

But now many people don’t pay much attention to college entrance examination. Because many college students are also unemployed young people, and their success is not even as good as those who dropped out of middle school. There seems to be an inverse trend between academic qualifications and work ability.

But I will still encourage capable children to live their own college life and experience the indulgence of youth. University life is actually a small society. I admit that I did not understand and learn well, and I have a lot of regrets. But for the younger generation who are studying and looking forward to the future, college is still a worthwhile life experience.

The only thing that needs to change is our attitude towards life in the four years of college. Don't waste your time, acquiring a more complete knowledge system and having the ability to expand and upgrade your knowledge system are the top priorities! It doesn't matter whether major is important or not. Who can rely on the professional knowledge in university for a lifetime? Learning, adaptability and interpersonal communication skills are the basic qualities of college students.

I don’t know why I talked about some of my current views on college and going to college while I was recalling it. It should be that many of the children we chat with these days are middle school students who have been working in society for a while. They have no academic qualifications but have social experience. While I am proud of having a high degree of education, I do not have enough social experience to help me gain real wealth in life.

Therefore, the question I am thinking about every day is: how can my learning ability and adaptability be realized in real life. Let the things I didn’t want to do in the past continue to stay away from my life, so that the things I want to do in myself can really survive.
