Youlongmen Grottoes

On the weekend, the weather was fine. My parents and I went to the Longmen Grottoes to play by car.

When we got off the bus, we walked along Wangmen Street in Longmen, where there were tourists in twos and threes and small merchants soliciting business. I'm not interested in these. I am anxious to enter the gate to see the grottoes.

Entering the gate, we happened to meet a tour guide explaining the knowledge of Longmen Grottoes to tourists, and we followed. "According to legend, in ancient times, there was a vast lake in the south of Luoyang, surrounded by green hills and grass. People graze in the mountains, fish in the lakes and live a quiet life. There is a hardworking child in the village who goes to the mountains to herd sheep every day. He often hears the strange sound of "I can't open it" coming from underground. When he got home, he told his mother about it. Mom thought about it and told him that if she heard it again, she would answer:' Open!' Who knows, the sky suddenly collapsed, Longmen Mountain immediately split from the middle, and the raging lake water gushed out from the gap, roaring around Luoyang City and flowing to the East China Sea. After the water flows, countless clear springs gush out from the cliff stones, which are stored as fragrant pools and shed into waterfalls. There are countless honeycomb-shaped grottoes on the cliffs of the two mountains. All the grottoes are stone statues, some with fine eyes and some with unclear outlines, which are very spectacular. Since then, Longmen Grottoes have become famous all over the world. "

Oh! It turns out that there are such touching legends and stories in Longmen Grottoes!

"Longmen is located on the Yishui River, which is 13 km south of Luoyang. The two mountains are opposite here, and the Yi River flows like a doorway, so it was called "Yi Que" in ancient times. Because it is located in the south of the capital of Sui and Tang Dynasties, it is also called "Longmen". Longmen Mountain Color has been known as the first of the eight scenic spots in Luoyang since ancient times and is the best scenic spot in Luoyang. Since ancient times, supplementing qi has been the main road of transportation and a battleground for military strategists. It is also the gateway and barrier to the south of ancient Luoyang. "

We followed the people who came to watch and a curved pool appeared in front of us. The gurgling stream flowed out of the cracks in the stone and poured into the small pool. The pond is full of aquatic plants and colorful goldfish are swimming happily.

We first arrived at a relatively large grotto, Qianxi Temple. It is said that it was carved in early Tang Gaozong. The statues in the cave are a Buddha, two disciples, two bodhisattvas and two heavenly kings. The main statue of Amitabha sits in the middle, with a plump face, a chest, and a quiet and kind expression. The body proportions of Guanyin and Bodhisattva on both sides are moderate, plump and honest, and Wen Ya's expression is calm and full of human feelings, revealing the great development of sculpture art in the early Tang Dynasty. Amitabha Buddha and Guanyin Bodhisattva, collectively known as the "Three Saints of the West", are idols worshipped by Pure Land Sect. The statue of Qianxi Temple opened the prelude to the plump and elegant sculpture style in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

Qianxisi

After seeing several grottoes in a row and climbing dozens of steps, I came to Fengxian Temple, the largest grottoes. There is the largest crowd here, and people come to watch and take pictures in an endless stream. Looking up, I feel that this grotto is so deep and big. It is said that it is about 40 meters deep from east to west and 36 meters wide from north to south. It was built in the sixth year of Wei Yong, that is, after 655 AD. It was completed in 675 AD. The layout of Fengxian Temple is: one Buddha, two disciples, two bodhisattvas, two heavenly kings, two strong men and two backers. The total height of the main Buddha "Lushena" is17.14m, in which the head height is 4m and the ears are.

1.9 meters high (higher than 1 adult) is the largest Buddha statue in Longmen Grottoes. His face is plump and elegant, his eyebrows are crescent-shaped, his eyes are affectionate, his smile is slightly exposed and his kindness overflows. Her wise eyes, looking down a little, just meet the eyes of the worshippers, which can cause people's emotional tremor (it is said that it was built after the appearance of Wu Zetian, no matter from which angle, I feel that the Lushe Buddha is watching you). Two disciples standing on both sides, Kaya Ye, an old man, has a rigorous and prudent image, while An An, a young man, has a plump and round image with fine eyes. Wearing a crown on the head of a bodhisattva, wearing a garland on her head, wearing a silk on her shoulders, and taking off her long skirt, there is a tendency to go out of the water. The nine statues in this shop depict a solemn, beautiful and moving style. The overall layout of Fengxian Temple makes people feel like the scene of the emperor calling for officials.

(Fengxian Temple)

Fengxian Temple is a large-scale art group sculpture with exquisite carving, which stands at the peak of China stone carving art and becomes a model of China stone carving art and a symbol of the prosperous Tang Dynasty.

(Ten Thousand Buddha Cave)

Next is the Ten Thousand Buddha Cave. Named after the 15000 small buddhas carved neatly on the north and south sides of the cave. The cave is a front and back room structure, with two lions in the front room and two buddhas, two disciples, two bodhisattvas and two heavenly kings in the back room. It is the most complete cave in Longmen Grottoes. There is a beautiful lotus flower at the top of the cave, surrounded by an inscription: "The first year of Yonglong in Datang was completed on November 30th, and Yao Shenbiao, the great supervisor, transported Zen masters in the inner Dojo, with 15,000 statues like niches". The main Buddha sits on the lotus throne, with four diamonds carved on his waist. The majestic gesture of struggling upward is in sharp contrast with the calmness of the main Buddha, and it also sets off the serenity of the main Buddha. There are fifty-two lotus flowers behind the main Buddha, and a bodhisattva sits on each lotus flower. They sit or sit sideways, or hold lotus flowers, or whisper to each other, with different expressions, like a group of different girls. Fifty-two represents the level of Bodhisattva from the beginning of practice to the end of becoming a Buddha, that is, ten faiths, ten residences, ten lines, ten directions, ten places, equal senses and wonderful senses.

Fifteen thousand small Buddha statues are neatly carved on the north and south walls of the cave, each of which is only four centimeters high. Six geisha musicians are carved on the pedestal of the north and south walls, and maiko dances in melodious music with a graceful posture.

The whole cave is resplendent and magnificent, showing people the ideal place of the western paradise and setting off a warm and cheerful atmosphere of becoming a Buddha.

(Gu Yangdong)

Guyang Cave, located in the southern section of Longmen Mountain, was dug in 493 AD. It is the earliest grotto in Longmen Grottoes, with the richest Buddhist content and the highest calligraphy art .. It is large in scale and magnificent in momentum.

(Twenty products)

There are hundreds of niches in Guyang Cave, which are beautifully carved and decorated. Guyangdong is also the most concentrated place where the royal nobles in the Northern Wei Dynasty made wishes and statues. In order to extensively practice merits, pray for blessings and eliminate disasters, these dignitaries spared no expense to dig caves and shrines, leaving behind a calligraphy treasure-20 items of Longmen. There are 19 products in Guyangdong, and the other product is in Cixiang kiln. Twenty products of Longmen refers to the different inscriptions of twenty statues selected from the Northern Wei Dynasty, and records the carving time, figures and uses of the Buddhist niches. The 20-pin font is tall, straight and simple, with a structure and pen between Han Li and Tang Kai. Kang Youwei, a scholar in Qing Dynasty, strongly advocated the use of Wei Bei in the whole society. Now, the 20 pieces of Longmen still have infinite artistic charm, attracting countless overseas friends to cross the ocean every year in order to witness this rare calligraphy with their own eyes.

Prescription hole. After watching Guyang Cave, we came to Fangzi Cave, which was named after many prescriptions of the Tang Dynasty engraved on the door. Carved in the late Northern Wei Dynasty, after the Eastern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty, there were still carvings in the early Tang Dynasty. There are five Buddha statues in the cave, with stiff and curved bodies, short and thick necks and strong bodies. The straps on both sides of the Buddha's crown are very long and hang down to the upper part of the arm. These are the characteristics of the statues in the Northern Qi Dynasty. There are 150 prescriptions engraved on both sides of the cave gate. The drugs used are mostly plants, animals and minerals. Prescriptions involve internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, ent, etc. The medicinal materials involved can be found among the people, which greatly facilitates the people. These prescriptions can treat not only common diseases, but also intractable diseases. Fangzidong prescription is the earliest stone prescription in China, which plays an important role in medical research in China.

Through the tour, I learned that Longmen Grottoes have preserved a large number of physical historical materials in religion, art, calligraphy, music, clothing, medicine, architecture, Chinese and foreign transportation and so on. This is a great achievement of the ancient people in China. It is a large stone carving art museum, which is a concentrated expression of the sculpture art of ancient grottoes in China.

Postscript: The grotto legends are sorted out according to the tour guide's explanation, and the relevant materials of the grotto are consulted. Longmen Grottoes is a world cultural heritage and worth seeing. Unfortunately, some of them have been destroyed! Welcome to visit Luoyang.
