Q1 Is Octopus a guaranteed card? Want to buy?
Answer: The Octopus card can not only be used in cars and subways, but can also be swiped in convenience stores and many other places, which is very convenient. If you have to go to several places and need to take the subway or bus frequently, it is best to buy one.
As soon as you arrive at the Hong Kong Airport, you are facing the small entrance of the Hong Kong Tourism Bureau. On the right are Citibank and Bank of China ATMs, and on the left there is a service center where you can buy Octopus cards. The deposit is HK$50 and the top-up is HK$100. There are many people at this window, and you usually have to queue up. In fact, when you go out, there is an open service center not at the Airport Express platform. There are few people there, and the services are the same.
But if you happen to live in Tsim Sha Tsui or Central, and your activity range is only in one of them, then it’s okay not to buy an Octopus. I’ll explain in detail later.
Q2 Is the Airport Express convenient? How to take it?
Answer: Hong Kong’s Airport Express is very convenient. There are three stations towards the city, in order:
① Tsing Yi: You can change the Tung Chung Line to the Disneyland Line and go directly to Disneyland.
②Kowloon: relatively close to the Tsim Sha Tsui area.
③Hong Kong: It is the Central Station of the MTR, which is accessible underground. However, it is very far to walk from Hong Kong Station to Central Station, and it takes a long time to walk around.
You can use your Octopus to ride directly, or you can book tickets online in advance. Of course the price is much cheaper if you order online. And after leaving the airport, there is no need to queue up to exchange tickets. Hong Kong's Airport Express does not have a ticket gate at the airport station. I also confirmed with the staff that I can just sit on it and exchange my ticket when I leave the station.
PS: If you book your tickets online in advance, remember to print out the PDF of the ticket. The staff will take it away when you leave the station to exchange your ticket.
Q3 Can the Octopus card be refunded?
Answer: In addition to taking the subway and bus, the Octopus card can be used in convenience stores, snack bars and bakeries in subway stations.
If you want to return the card, please note that the rental version (HKD 150) that you buy directly contains a deposit of 50 RMB + 100 stored value. When you return the card after using it for less than 3 months, you need to deduct HKD. There is a handling fee of 9 yuan, and the deposit will be fully refunded after 3 months.
In addition, Octopus can be overdrafted up to a maximum of HK$35. However, you can only overdraft once. For example, if you overdraft by HK$16, you must recharge before you can continue to use it. This does not mean that you can continue to overdraft to HK$35 and then recharge. However, if your overdraft exceeds HK$30 and you are too lazy to cancel the card, you won’t lose much.
The most convenient way to withdraw the card is when you are leaving the port. Take the Airport Express to the airport station. There is a service desk as soon as you exit the gate, and you can withdraw the card there.
When you get off the Airport Express, you will see these neatly arranged trolleys. At first glance, they are Wuli Virgo’s obsessive-compulsive disorder staff! Walk along and you will see the service desk~
