Combined with the case, this paper analyzes the main influencing factors of the life cycle of tourist destinations.

The evolution of tourist destinations has gone through six stages: exploration stage, participation stage, development stage, consolidation stage, stagnation stage, decline or recovery stage.

Exploration stage: The tourist destination is characterized by limited number of adventure tourists, scattered distribution and frequent contact with local residents. The natural and socio-economic environment of tourist destinations has not changed because of tourism. Antarctica, Latin America and parts of the Canadian Arctic Ocean are at this stage.

Participation stage: tourists are gradually increasing, attracting local residents to provide some simple facilities for tourists. The tourist season has gradually formed, advertisements have begun to appear, and the scope of the tourism market has been defined. Some smaller and less developed islands in the Pacific and Caribbean are at this stage.

Development stage: a huge and perfect tourism market has been formed, attracting a lot of foreign investment. The number of tourists continues to rise, even exceeding the number of permanent residents at the peak. Traffic conditions and local facilities have been greatly improved, and advertising and promotion efforts have also been greatly improved. The large-scale modernization facilities provided by foreign companies have changed the image of the destination. The rapid development of tourism makes it partly dependent on foreign labor and auxiliary facilities. At this stage, it is necessary to prevent excessive abuse of facilities, so the planning scheme of a country or region is particularly important. Parts of Mexico and the coasts of North Africa and West Africa all belong to this stage.

Consolidation stage: the economic development of the destination is closely related to tourism. The growth rate of tourists has declined, but the total number of tourists will continue to increase and exceed the number of long-term residents. In order to expand the market scope, prolong the tourist season and attract more long-distance tourists, the scope of advertising promotion has been further expanded. Local residents have been disgusted with the arrival of tourists. What used to be a facility is now a secondary facility, which is no longer a place people yearn for. Most of the Caribbean and northern Mediterranean belong to this stage.

Stagnant stage: At this stage, the tourism environmental capacity has reached or exceeded the maximum limit, resulting in many economic, social and environmental problems. The largest number of tourists makes the tourism market largely dependent on revisiting tourists and meeting tourists. Natural or cultural attractions have been replaced by man-made landscapes, and there are too many reception facilities.

Decline or recovery stage: In the decline stage, tourists are attracted to new destinations, leaving only some weekend holiday tourists or tourists who don't spend the night outside. A large number of tourist facilities have been replaced by other facilities, and the degree of real estate resale is quite high. During this period, the degree of local residents' participation in tourism increased again, and they bought tourist facilities at quite low prices. At this time, the original tourist destination has either become a so-called "tourist slum" or is completely out of touch with tourism; Another possibility is that the tourist destination enters the recovery period after the stagnation stage. There are two ways: one is to create a series of new artificial landscapes; The second is to give full play to the advantages of undeveloped natural tourism resources and carry out marketing activities to attract existing and future tourists. Many tourist destinations in Britain and northern Europe fall into this category.

There are five possibilities in the decline or recovery stage: ① Redeveloping tourist destinations is very effective, so that the number of tourists continues to rise and tourist destinations enter the recovery stage; (2) Limited to small-scale adjustment and transformation, so that the number of tourists will continue to increase slightly, the recovery speed will be slow, and attention should be paid to protecting resources; (3) Efforts should be made to maintain the existing tourist volume and avoid its decline; (4) Excessive use of resources and neglect of environmental protection have led to a decline in competitiveness and a sharp drop in the number of tourists; The occurrence of war, plague or other catastrophic events will lead to a sharp decline in the number of tourists, and it is difficult to return to the original level.
