When was the Guanyin Bodhisattva in Nanhai, Sanya built?

The Sanya Nanhai Guanyin Bodhisattva was built on April 15, 2005. In 1993, the Religious Affairs Bureau of the State Council of China and the Hainan People's Government approved the construction of the Sanya Nanshan Temple and built a 108-meter-high Sea Guanyin in the sea in front of the temple. The holy statue belongs to Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone.

In 1999, on the 19th day of the ninth lunar month, Nanshan held a grand opening ceremony for the "Nanshan Sea Guanyin" construction project. The project lasted for six years, and a grand consecration ceremony was held on April 24, 2005 (the 16th day of the third lunar month, the birthday of Zhunti Bodhisattva).

Extended information:

Nanshan is located on the coast of the South China Sea. It is shaped like a giant ao and was called Aoshan in ancient times. It has the appearance of Guanyin Bodhisattva riding on it. Qiongzhou has always said that Guanyin went out to patrol the South China Sea. Guanyin Bodhisattva here followed the voice to save suffering and saved all sentient beings, and children and old people praised it. The two islands of Dongmao and Ximao seen from the side of Nanshan are said to have been formed by Guanyin, who fell from her load of earth when she heard the sound of rescuing people.

During the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty, Monk Jianzhen, the founder of Lu Zong, was blocked during his fifth eastward journey to Japan. He drifted to Nanshan and landed to preach the Dharma. Later, he was protected by Guanyin Bodhisattva and succeeded in his sixth eastward journey. Japan sent Master Kukai, the Tang monk, to the west to seek Dharma. He was also prevented from reaching Nanshan by a typhoon. With the support of Guanyin, he went to Chang'an to seek Dharma and achieve success. Therefore, Buddhists have always regarded Nanshan as a place of special karma and blessings.

Guanyin Bodhisattva has always lived in Nanshan and should be transformed in the four directions. However, there are many statues of Guanyin in the four directions, and there is no golden body of Bodhisattva in Nanshan. This is because of the lack of opportunity. Now that the cause has matured, with the approval of the Religious Affairs Bureau of the State Council and the Hainan Provincial People's Government, we have gathered believers from all over the world to build a statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva to fulfill the great wish of Guanyin Bodhisattva to live in the South China Sea.
