Tourist routes of Yuelu Mountain in Changsha

On Yuelu Mountain, people usually take two conventional routes to watch the maple leaves: one is to walk in the Qingfeng Gorge, a "small anticline valley", and watch and shoot with Aiwan Pavilion, Hefangting, stupa, Lan Jian and Stone Color as the background. Occasionally, a few people will go to Qingfeng Spring, in front of the air-raid shelter of the ninth theater headquarters, and generally take the stone steps to the Lushan Temple, and then go forward. 2. Enter the main entrance from Dongfanghong Square, take photos from the main road in front of the management office of Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area, pass Banshan Pavilion, Lushan Temple, Baihequan, Caisongpo Tomb or turn to the main road to the place next to Liu Kuntao's tomb. The above two sites are the center of the core scenic spot of Yuelu Mountain, where there is a large ancient maple community with an area of more than 1000 mu, accounting for 85% of the ancient trees in Yuelu Mountain. Compared with another ancient tree community on the southeast slope of Yunlufeng, the Liquidambar formosana here is "ancient, elegant in appearance, excellent in trunk, unique in branches and leaves, and of high ornamental value". However, there is another colorful valley in Yuelu Mountain, dominated by strong maple trees. The scenery is more quiet, but few people know it. Every friend I took to visit appreciated this maple forest and thought that "the most beautiful early winter in Changsha was found here". The most beautiful valley maple forest in Yuelu Mountain is located in the ancient Canglang Valley of Yuelu Mountain, which is the orchid garden of Lushan Mountain today. The old people in Huda and Normal University are commonly called "Cherry Valley" or "Cherry Creek" here. However, the best place to enjoy maple in Canglang Valley is not in the valley. The walking route is: from a cement road on the north side of Aiwan Pavilion (there is a public toilet on the roadside), about five minutes, you can see a warning sign of "No Smoking in the Forest". From the stone ridge next to the warning sign, it is an abandoned ancient road in the pine forest. Starting from the ancient road, it takes about twenty steps, and there are several forks on the right that extend deep into the dense forest, which is the best viewing sidewalk to enter Canglang Valley. Three or four maple trees grow naturally (other forks are pine trees), enter the fork, step on pine needles everywhere and go straight ahead. On the left side of the path, you can see the beautiful scenery of "first frost Red with Thousands of Trees" on the opposite hillside. On the road, I often hear endless surprises and the shutter sound of the camera. At the end of this path, there is a stone bridge imitating the grain of logs, which spans the cherry ditch. When you come down from the stone bridge, you can wander in the maple trees and walk on the road, which is a fire service road. The right side of the service road can reach Mangshe Cave, and the left side can lead to Wang Yu Monument, Jiaodafeng Tomb, Huangxing Tomb and Yunlu Palace. Canglang Valley and Qingfeng Valley are separated by a mountain, both of which are bimodal valleys. Mi Fei, a painter in Song Dynasty, was so excited to see Canglang Valley that he washed pillows all day. Zeng Guofan often lingered in this valley when he was studying in Yuelu Academy in Qing Dynasty, and he often thought of this beautiful valley when he was an official in Beijing.
