Important information about local self-driving

1. Introduction to road conditions

The road conditions in Morocco are not as bad as those written in many posts. You have to be skilled at driving by yourself and so on. Judging from the experience of the landlord's visit, almost all the roads are newly built. We also joked that our former friends came and posted articles, and the Moroccan government saw it, so we came to the newly built road.

Secondly, road signs are almost the same as those in China. Driving on the road in Morocco is like driving in your own country, without any strangeness. The only bad road should be from Agadir to Merzuka. There are roads under construction and mountain roads. Friends who have never driven a mountain road should pay attention. But overall, the road conditions are quite good.

2. Introduction of intercity roads

There are four types of roads, and expressway, which begins with the word "A", is rare. During the whole journey, we sat twice. The word "n" begins with a national road, often all the way. The longest is N 13, which runs through several cities. "P" or "R" starts with a provincial road, so you will walk often. Expressway is basically a two-way four-lane expressway. National highways and provincial highways generally have two lanes and three lanes. Except those who build roads, almost all of them are asphalt roads. Old-fashioned roundabout is very popular in China, but the roundabout is in good order, and local drivers strictly abide by the driving rules of first-in, last-in.

3. Urban roads

The urban roads in some big cities will be a little congested, but they will not be congested unless they get up with Beijing. Drivers in urban areas don't follow the rules like drivers on intercity roads, and there will be congestion and line grabbing, but it is also better than that in China 100 times. The overall quality of Moroccan drivers is very high, and it is not as horrible as written in the raiders of major websites. I seriously doubt that friends who don't follow the rules when driving by themselves will be besieged if they don't follow the rules abroad. I feel that local driving is mostly orderly.

4. Traffic police and traffic violations

First, I have to defend the Moroccan police. I read the posts of major travel websites before going to Morocco. Everyone who attended road trip complained about the Moroccan police. Almost everyone wrote that they were stopped many times and fined a lot of money. Because the landlord and his friends struggled for some time, whether to drive or not, and before we set off, several of us also discussed many countermeasures. It turned out that it was not written in the forum post at all. The landlord can proudly say that we didn't pay a fine for driving around Morocco, but we were stopped by the police once. Then he looked at our driver's license and driving license and politely let us go. Therefore, the majority of friends who want to drive by car should not be scared away by the posts of major websites complaining about Moroccan police. All right, now get to the point. You can take notes.

First, Morocco does not have monitoring probes, and fines for violations are entirely dependent on human police. Therefore, as long as there is no police, you don't have to worry about speeding occasionally. If you break a small rule, you will be photographed and fined. Of course, the landlord does not advocate illegal speeding.

Second, the clothes of Moroccan police are not uniform. The landlord walked around and found himself swimming in three colors, one is white, the other is blue-gray and the other is khaki. Therefore, all the people who see these three colors of uniforms in the distance are policemen. You should check the illegal driving habits brought from home by yourself and slow down to the speed indicated by the road sign. As long as you get this skill, the landlord promises not to be fined all the time.

Third, the place where the police often haunt is around the island. As mentioned above, Morocco is a hot spot around the island, so when you arrive around the island, you must remember that the speed should be reduced to the range indicated by the road signs and follow the principle of first come, first served. Sometimes the police will bring their own deceleration signs, and they will often put them on the roadside at 50, 40, 30, 20 and 10, and the speed will gradually decrease to the position of the police, so at this time, we should follow the speed of the signs put by the police, not the speed of the road signs.

Fourth, we must remind you of your seat belt. Please forget your bad habits at home. When you get on the train in Morocco, please fasten your seat belt from the moment you get on the train, whether you are sitting in the front row or the back row. In order not to be fined by the police, but also for our own safety.

Fifth, if you meet a policeman on the road, and you have achieved the two points I mentioned above, please don't be nervous and don't stare at the policeman, let them drive away naturally as usual and greet the policeman warmly. Don't be nervous if you are stopped by the police. You didn't break the rules, and you didn't speed. What are you afraid of? Besides, now that you are a foreigner, you can only speak one or two sentences of English plus body language, and it is impossible to understand all English, especially French, Arabic and Spanish. Anyway, the police don't know anything, but you should be polite, friendly, pretend to be innocent, and then basically. If you really violate the rules and the previous phone call is incomprehensible, the police should be helpless to you. Because I can't communicate, I guess I'll let it go without a fine. The landlord guessed, after all, the landlord did not violate the rules and was not stopped for speeding. The only time he was stopped was driving normally. But if you break away from convention and speak a lot of English and French proudly, I can't help but wonder what the police will do to you. So you can understand this skill of selling cute and innocent. Anyway, the landlord looked around and thought all the policemen were friendly. When he sees us on the road, he often greets us in a friendly way.

Sixth, as in China, driver's license and driving license can only be opened together. This little friend should pay attention. Morocco's vehicle license plate is very large, many times larger than ours. Please forgive me for not taking pictures. But when you rent a car, the car dealership will remind you. If you really can't tell the difference, or don't understand the introduction of the car dealership, it would be foolish. You put all the information given to you by the car dealership in the car. When the police are finished, you give it to him and let him choose. Where's the driver's license? If you use the international certification I mentioned earlier, remember to bring your domestic driver's license. You can only use them together.

5. Vehicle insurance

When renting a car, it is recommended to insure against all risks. Also, if your English, French and Arabic are not very good, the landlord suggests that you use the car rental APP I recommended before, so that in case of an accident, if you can't communicate, you can ask the platform to help you communicate even if you can't get in touch in time. After returning home, the platform can also help you communicate and resolve any disputes.

During this trip, the landlord encountered the problem that the brakes of the vehicle were badly worn and needed to be replaced. Because many professional terms and repair shops still speak French, the car was finally repaired, but when settling claims with the car dealer, the car dealer thought it was not an accident, so it was not compensated. However, because I had gone through the insurance, I finally lost to the car rental platform. However, after returning to China, we communicated with the car rental platform to solve the problem and avoid local delays caused by different languages and understandings. Especially when repairing a car, it is best to pay by credit card. Because we paid in cash, it took a lot of effort to settle the claim after returning home, because it was impossible to prove how much we paid, and the invoice issued by the garage was in Arabic. The car rental platform has now found an interpreter to translate, but in the end we settled the claim normally. So I strongly recommend renting a car again. I didn't know I tried so hard to recommend it. Renting a car doesn't give me advertising fees. hahaha.

6. About refueling

There are so many gas stations in Morocco, even more than in China. So don't worry about refueling, even near the desert, refueling is not a problem. Come on, let's see if the car you rented is diesel or gasoline. There is a sign on the water tank cover. Well, the farther south the oil price goes, the more expensive it is, because the closer it is to the desert area. We rent a diesel car, and the price is similar to that in China. The local currency is more than 9 yuan per liter.

7. About navigation

Recommend two. One is the Google map that comes with Apple's mobile phone, and the other is the offline map to explore the road. Google maps are used between cities, and offline maps are used inside cities. When the cell phone network signal between cities is not good, it is best to use offline maps. The landlord's experience is that when driving between cities, both maps are open. If you compare it from time to time, you won't make mistakes. Google Maps is not easy to use in cities, so you must use scout offline, especially in Fez and Marrakech. When you have scout's offline map, you won't get lost, and there won't be posts in major forums saying that local guides are needed in these two places. Except in Fez, the landlord is in a hurry. He didn't find the English name of the dye vat in advance, so he found a tour guide, and the rest were useless. Therefore, I would like to remind you that you must write down the English name and French name of the place you want to go before you travel, so as to accurately search for the two navigations. Exploring offline map is a special navigation used abroad. When friends are in China, they can only download Moroccan app and offline map first. You can use it as soon as you arrive in Morocco. In addition, the landlord found that when driving in Morocco, the total time spent on navigation calculation is always one or two hours less than the actual driving time. Maybe it's because we are having fun on the road, or maybe it's because we are not familiar with the road and don't sail at the theoretical speed. In short, the actual arrival time is longer than expected, and friends should also pay attention to this. When considering the route and playing time, we should leave the rich time I said. Because of this time difference, the landlord almost missed the sunset in Sahara.

8. About parking

Basically, stopping in Morocco for a period of time will not exceed 5DH, and stopping for one night is basically 20DH. Only stopping in Marrakech for one night is a little more expensive, and it will not exceed 40DH hours. Another suggestion is that you pay the parking fee to the toll collector when you leave and pay it when you don't stop. Avoid paying when parking. When you leave, another person will charge you money and won't let you go. The whole building follows this principle. So when Estella left, she met two toll collectors to collect fees. We successfully paid the parking fee once and drove away, watching two toll collectors argue in the mirror.

9. About the driving time every day

It's easy to play in go on road trip most of the time, and the driving distance between different cities is not particularly long, and it can be reached within 4 hours. Very suitable for self-driving. Only the journey from Agadir Warzaza to Temerzukafitz is hard, almost every trip takes 6 hours, and even it takes 8 hours from Merzuka to Fez. So, if you are tired to Fez, you can learn from the landlord. You don't have to drive directly to Fez, you can find a small town to stay for one night on the way, and the journey is easier. /kloc-the whole journey of more than 0/0 days refers to the hardships of these three days, which is quite good, but it is this kind of hardship that allows us to see the invincible Sahara.

The above nine items are some reference information for you to drive in Morocco. If there are any omissions, you can trust me privately. In a word, the landlord thinks Morocco is a particularly suitable place to go to road trip, with good road conditions. If you want to start the mode of driving abroad, I suggest you start from Morocco. It's really like driving in China. The scenery on the road is great.

If you want to save time, please choose my flight.

Car rental information

Recommend a good one.

Car rental APP, car rental. Before friends went to the United States and Canada, we rented a car with this app on this trip. Full Chinese booking interface, 7*24-hour multilingual telephone hotline. There are also many models to choose from, and the insurance is more comprehensive. Free Chinese navigator is provided, and driver's license certificates that can be used in 200 countries are also provided to be used with China driver's license.

If there are any problems in picking up, using, returning and settling claims overseas, the car rental company will actively help to contact foreign car rental companies to solve them. The user experience is as smooth as CAR Inc ..

This car rental brand: Dachiadoc.

This car rental type: compact MPV manual gear.

Rental price: 65438+2380 yuan for 4 days.

The total insurance cost of this car rental: 65438+854 yuan for 04 days.

Special note: If four people choose to drive by car, please be sure to consider whether the trunk is big enough for luggage. We chose this brand of car this time because four people have a lot of luggage and a large trunk. But for some reason, the car we rented disappeared in the store, and the store upgraded the Dacia vacuum cleaner for us for free. Although the car is higher than the original grade and the trunk is smaller than the model we rented, it can also hold the trunk of the four of us. We have three 24-inch boxes and one 22-inch box.

Currency exchange and credit card usage information

Morocco's currency is dirham, and direct exchange with RMB is not supported. You need to take all the dollars or euros to the local exchange office in China. As Morocco is the back garden of Europe, we brought euros this time. After a trip, I felt that more people took euros to the local area.

On this trip, we exchanged 2000 euros for 20762 dirhams, and the average exchange rate was 10.438+0. The three exchanges are Airport10.1057; Marrakech 10.48, Fez 10.42, compared with Marrakech, the most cost-effective. Therefore, if friends who are interested in going can accurately estimate the cash consumption needed for the whole journey, it is enough to exchange it in Marrakech at one time. If you can't accurately predict your own consumption, or don't pay special attention to the exchange rate difference, you can exchange money many times according to the actual consumption situation like us. If you save more, you have to spend money for the sake of spending money. According to Moroccan regulations, foreigners can't exchange dirhams into euros and dollars, and they will check their cash when they leave the country. We were questioned when we left the customs, but we didn't really open it or check it.

At the same time, euros and dollars can be directly consumed in local tourist cities. Usually, the local consumption of euro is 1 to 10, so it is not cost-effective to change it into local currency.

I read the raiders online before, saying that Morocco can't use credit cards basically, and it doesn't support UnionPay to withdraw cash. Actually, it's not. Credit cards are supported in more than half of the places, which can be used in most cities in the north, and are basically supported in all tourist developed cities in the south (some homestays and Riad do not support credit cards, and some relatively backward or small places in the Sahara desert and the south cannot use credit cards. In fact, there are many places that support credit cards, especially in northern cities, and there are still few backward cities in the south.

Need to remind everyone that many places in Morocco support direct brushing of US dollars. You can ask first and then brush, and you can directly ask to brush dollars. It is more cost-effective to return to China at the exchange rate of credit cards. You can also set up a full-currency credit card of China Merchants Bank for foreign use. It is very convenient to play abroad, and the landlord has one himself.

No matter which foreign exchange method is adopted, it is recommended that you exchange a little dirham at the airport in advance so that you can buy a calling card by taxi.

stay

Morocco is located in North Africa, facing Spain across the sea. Once a French colony, it is now the back garden of Europe. Many Europeans come here for their holidays, so the hotels and corresponding tourist facilities here are complete, which is completely different from the mess we imagined in Africa. There are various styles and formats of hotels. From eleven nights to a thousand nights, there is always one for you.

Riad, a local characteristic building, must live in Morocco once. Riad is the house of a Moroccan family, which is equivalent to the house of the landlord in our country. The architectural style is unremarkable, and it is a cave as soon as you enter the door. Each yard has a beautiful swimming pool, where you can enjoy the cool or swim, and then a small building is built around the swimming pool in the east. The doors and windows of the small building, including the facade, are beautiful. Each small building is also equipped with a rooftop, where you can see the scenery outside the courtyard and enjoy a cool meal. But Riad is located in the ancient city of Medina in every city, and cars are often not allowed to enter the ancient city of Medina, which means that if you want to live a distinctive life in Riad, you have to drag a big suitcase around the streets. So if you don't particularly like Riad's friends, I suggest you try it once in a while, for one or two nights. The rest are more convenient to live on the edge of the old city with convenient transportation.

Booking or AIRBNB is generally recommended for booking channels, and you can also refer to the ranking of catwalk eagles. But as far as Morocco is concerned, I personally recommend using BOOKIBNG for reservation. The arrangement of addresses and house numbers in Morocco is really messy. We booked two homestays on AIRBNB for this trip. As a result, the first one could not be found by navigation because the hotel address was unclear. I asked the landlord for the address, but I still can't find it nearby. Finally, the landlord sent someone to pick it up and found the hidden house, which wasted us more than three hours. The advantages and disadvantages are compared in detail in the form of a list.

Hotel reservation tips:

1. I started booking hotels for this trip two months before departure, but most of the hotels pushed by netizens can't be booked, so if you especially want to book hotels for online celebrities, you must book them in advance, the sooner the better.

2. The free cancellation time of each hotel must be recorded. You'd better make a form so that you don't have to deduct money if you want to cancel after the cancellation time.

3. If you want to go to road trip like us and want to be casual, I suggest that you book a hotel only a few days before your trip, and then make a reservation according to the actual situation in Morocco. Of course, booking near the date is definitely not as cheap as booking in advance.

4. If you book a hotel in the desert in go on road trip, you must contact the hotel in advance to determine the parking place and pick up the car.

Be sure to look at the map carefully before booking to see if it is in the ancient city of Medina. If you are in the ancient city, is it close to the scenic spots you want to visit, because you basically walk in the ancient city of Medina.

6. Morocco is an Islamic country, and the minarets of all mosques broadcast prayers five times a day on time, one of which is after 4 am, that is, before sunrise. Therefore, people with poor sleep quality must choose hotels far away from mosques. Many of our hotels are far away from mosques, and we can wake up our little friends who sleep very lightly every day. When they finally left, they had fixed a biological clock, woke up at a certain time, and then went back to sleep.

7. Friends who are used to drinking hot water suggest bringing a heating rod. Hotels in Morocco basically do not provide kettles. If you need hot water, you must ask at the front desk. Some can give a kettle, while others only give a pot of hot water.
