Cancun's economy

Cancun used to be a remote fishing village with only 300 people. 1972, the Mexican government invested $350 million to build a tourist area and a free trade center, focusing on the development of tourism. 1975 began to receive tourists. Today, Cancun has developed into an international tourist destination that can receive 2 million tourists every year. Among the tourists, 1/3 takes Cancun as the center and visits the Mayan monuments in the nearby Yucatan Peninsula.
