Where is the Weichuan City God Temple located?

Weichuan City God Temple is a cultural relic protection unit in Henan Province.

The Weichuan City God Temple is located on the north side of Weichuan Town Center Road. According to the "Weichuan County Chronicle", the temple was built in the early Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in the fifth year of Zhengtong (1440 AD). It was rebuilt many times during the years. The temple originally had five main halls, five worship halls, 25 east and west gallery rooms, a theater building, six sleeping halls, and three gates. Outside the gate was a pair of stone lions from the Hongzhi period of the Ming Dynasty. The entire Town God's Temple covers an area of ??about 15 acres. Before liberation, it was the seat of the old government of Weichuan County. The original east-west gallery houses have been transformed into east-west row houses. After liberation, the People's Government of Weichuan County was established here. After Wei and Wei merged into counties, Weichuan County was abolished, and the Chenghuang Temple is now used by Weichuan Branch of Weishi County People's Cultural Center.

There are three gates and five worship halls in the Weichuan City God Temple. The worship hall is five rooms wide and three feet deep. It has a hard top with flower-stacked ridges (originally cut with glazed ridges) and a beam frame for the worship hall. The structure is unique. There are four inner columns running horizontally in the hall reaching the ridge of the roof. Four beams extend flatly from the column body. There are columns on the beams, and the beams support the purlins. There are flying rafters under the eaves, eaves purlins, large and small square beams and flat beams. There are colorful paintings on the square pillars, and there are square clear stone pillars under the eaves, four on each side and eight on each side. There are regular script couplets engraved on the front pillars. The central couplet is: "Zepei people have great magical powers in resisting disasters and defending against disasters, and their spirits are yin." On the back of the stone pillar, there is a side scroll: "If you are wise and do not conceal your actions, you have already known that by reciting the sutra, you will be honest and selfless, and you will end up with good and evil." "Special reward", Zhonglian "It's difficult to see things in the underworld, but it's never good, and people's hearts are unpredictable and the ghosts shine brightly, but they are always selfless."

In the worship hall, an open-carved wooden lattice is placed on the first beam, and official script plaques are placed in the three rooms in the middle. In the middle is "Gongzhengtang", on the right is "Responsible" and on the left is "Discipline". three large characters (these three plaques should have been placed by the original Weichuan County Government during the Republic of China). There are six east and west gallery rooms on both sides of the worship hall. Although it has been renovated, its wooden frame structure has not changed. The original character can be restored by removing the brick walls.

The original mountain gate of Weichuan City God Temple was tall and majestic, in the style of a pavilion. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the Great Leap Forward. Although the current gate has been renovated, it still has the original wooden frame structure of the mountain gate, with bright pillars, large and small foreheads. Fang, flat Fang, the original central door and the left and right side doors can be revealed by removing the brick wall, while still retaining its majestic atmosphere. In particular, the pair of stone lions on the south side of the gate are 247 cm high, 77 cm long from east to west, and 58 cm wide from north to south. The base height is 107 cm and the lion height is 140 cm. The stone lion carvings are round and simple. On the forehead of the stone lion on the east side is the inscription ***62, which is mostly blurred. According to research, it was carved in the 17th year of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1504). Therefore, the pair of stone lions are nearly 500 years old. They are indeed a pair of Ming Dynasty stone carvings of high value.

Now the Weichuan City God Temple is the center of mass cultural activities in Weichuan Town. In 1985, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Weishi County, and the protection scope was delineated in 1990.
