In places like Qinghai and Tibet in Xinjiang, better hotels are only available in larger cities, so you basically spend two-thirds of your day on the way to scenic spots and hotels.

Last month, I just signed up for a tour to Qinghai Lake, gathered in Lanzhou by train, then took a bus for more than 4 hours to Xining, then from Xining to Qinghai Lake for 4 hours, and then from Qinghai Lake to Chaka Salt Lake for 3 hours. Moreover, the bus is inherently slow and it is not easy to overtake.
