How to choose a travel telescope?
Travel telescopes, because they are used outside, require such telescopes, which are small in size and light in weight. Although the general 10X25 telescope can meet the requirements in terms of size and weight. However, the field of view is relatively short and cannot meet the needs of a telescope for tourism.
So it is generally recommended that the aperture of a telescope for travel should be between 28-32MM, the weight should be within 500 grams, and the size should not be too large. At the same time, the resolution is required to be very high. If the resolution is not high, it will make you really unhappy when traveling.
There are currently two well-known travel telescopes on the market, the Steiner 5801 and Bushnell Trophy 8X32. The price is more than 2,000 yuan. When purchasing, many people hesitate between these two models because they cannot see the actual product. The author actually tested these two products in a physical telescope store, and I will share my experience with you below:
1. Comparison of appearance, size, weight and texture
The above are the two products Regarding the appearance of these machines, the Steiner 5810 uses the Paul type, and the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 uses the roof type. In terms of prism structure, the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is superior. After all, the roof type structure is complex and costly, and theoretically the imaging problem is The effect is also good.
The Steiner 5810 uses 8X30, while the Bushnell Trophy uses 8X32, which is slightly larger in caliber.
In terms of volume, the Vision 5810 is 178 wide × 118 high × 60 mm thick, while the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is 125 wide × 110 high × 38 mm thick. Obviously, the Bushnell Trophy is much smaller. The weight of the Steiner 5810 is 510 grams and the Bushnell Trophy is 420 grams, which is much lighter.
From the perspective of volume and weight, the Bushnell Trophy is smaller. For those who choose small and medium-sized telescopes, it is estimated that more people prefer the compact and slender appearance of the Bushnell Trophy.
In terms of workmanship, just as many people on the Internet have reported, the workmanship of the Stadel 5810 is poor and has a strong plastic feel, which does not match its price of 2,000 yuan. The Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is much higher than the Steiner 5810 in terms of materials and fineness.
2. Appearance and packaging comparison
So, from the first impression, Bushnell The Trophy 8X32 is obviously far superior to the Steiner 5810 in terms of size, weight, caliber, prism structure, workmanship and packaging.
Of course, the above are superficial articles, the actual effect of the telescope depends on it. is the most important. Both products are very famous, but I don’t know if there is any difference in their effectiveness.
Comparison of actual observation effects
1. Eyepiece
For small and medium-sized telescopes, the eyepiece is very important. Directly affects the visual field and observation feeling.
Staller 5810 uses small eyepieces with a lens hood. This design is common on many domestic Polo scopes. But the small eyepiece does feel very uncomfortable, and you need to get close to the eyepiece to get a good field of view. It feels bad. The hood is mainly used with small eyepieces so that the eyes can be close to the eyepieces. The problem is, if you wear a telescope, this mirror cannot be used.
The Bushnell Trophy 8X32 uses the large eyepiece commonly used in roof-mounted telescopes, which is very comfortable to use. People who wear glasses will have no problem using it. In addition, the large eyepiece also allows enough light to enter the eyes, increasing the brightness of observation.
2. Field of view
The Steiner 5810 uses a 30MM objective lens, while the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 uses a 32MM eyepiece. The two models are about the same length. From the perspective of the traditional prism structure, with the same caliber, the Paul type field of view should be better. However, when using it, it is obvious that the field of view of Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is much better, and there is no sense of haste in the field of view when using it. Using Bushnell Trophy 8X32 feels exactly the same as using an ordinary 42MM telescope. However, the Steiner 5810 feels quite different in this regard. In addition to the structure of the telescope, it is probably also related to the use of small eyepieces for the 5810. I made a rough estimate and found that the field of view of the Steiner 5810 is about 30% smaller than that of the Bushnell Trophy 8X32.
3. Magnification
Most people believe that telescopes with the same magnification see targets with the same magnification. Actually no, the actual magnification seen by the telescope is related to the internal design structure of the telescope. Therefore, I roughly estimated that the actual magnification of the Steinmann 5810 will be about 20% smaller than that of the Bushnell Trophy 8X32.
4. Brightness
The brightness of a telescope mainly depends on the size of the objective lens, the size of the eyepiece, the internal light structure, the quality of the lens, and the coating technology. I tried these two machines. , the brightness of Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is obviously due to Steiner 5810. This is especially obvious when looking at distant targets when there is a little fog.
5. Clarity
The clarity of the telescope is very important. Clarity has a certain relationship with brightness, but it is not completely equivalent to brightness. A brighter telescope does not mean a clearer telescope.
Staller 5810 claims to have autofocus, but it does not have a battery, so it should just fix the focus to a specific range.
All Lego first-class machines have focus buttons. When in use, since the focal length cannot be adjusted, proper compensation can only be made by adjusting the eyepiece, so it is troublesome to operate. And some areas are obviously a bit out of focus.
In fact, the clarity of the Stadora 5810 is pretty good, but there is a certain gap between the Bushnell Trophy 8X32. Especially when viewing distant targets, such as the eaves of a building 3,000 meters away, or birds in the distance, it is obvious that the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is a level higher than the Steiner 5810.
6. Color reproduction degree
The colors of these two machines are very accurate, and the colors perceived by the naked eye are almost exactly the same, so the two machines are basically equivalent in terms of color reproduction degree.
Price Comparison
After checking the retail prices online, the price of Steiner 5810 is around 2,200 yuan, and the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is around 2,500 yuan. The price is slightly lower.
Summary
Through the above tests, in most aspects, the Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is obviously better than the Steinem 5810.
The Bushnell Trophy The 8X32 is obviously a level higher than the Stadel 5810 in terms of clarity and brightness, and the color reproduction is comparable. The Vision Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is about 30% larger, and the actual magnification is also about 20% larger. However, the size and weight are much smaller than that of the Steinfeld 5810.
Both models cost more than 2,000 yuan, but Bushnell Trophy 8X32 is obviously much more cost-effective than the Steinfeld 5810.
Above Only represents my personal opinion.
Notes
When choosing a travel telescope, you must choose a telescope with a good field of view, and it must be small in size and light in weight. Another telescope of the same caliber has a very different weight and a very different field of view.
