Chen Xianghong’s thoughts on the course

After listening to Chen Xianghong’s course, the most inspiring and rewarding things are the following three points:

1. Differentiation theory. Differentiation theory can be said to be a core theory of strategy theory, which is of great help to us no matter what kind of decisions we make. I adopted this theory when I decided to join SMG when I graduated from CEIBS in 2011. At that time, most of my classmates chose industries such as finance, consulting, and traditional industries. I analyzed that their abilities and levels were not as good as those of my elite classmates. Moreover, there were a large number of business management talents in these industries, but there was a lack of such talents in the cultural industry. Talent will show a greater development trend in the future. If I can choose such an industry and carry out differentiated competition, there will be more opportunities. Also at work, when considering corporate strategy and new business development, differentiated competition is more important. When we develop products such as immersive theaters, marketing platforms, and two-dimensional experience halls, we do not follow the traditional performing arts industry model. It is the use of differentiated thinking.

2. First principles. Li Shanyou’s First Principles course said: The golden rule in the business world is to find the first principle, and then stick to this principle to do things. Chen Xianghong found his first principle and goal before building Wuzhen Scenic Spot, which is to create an experience economy and a cultural tourism town that focuses on experience. With clear goals comes clear planning. In specific operations, he encountered various difficulties, pressures and temptations, but he adhered to his first principles, constantly overcome and solved problems, and finally made Wuzhen what it is today.

3. The importance of details. I personally think this is particularly important for offline industries like ours that are in direct contact with consumers. Any detail issue will greatly affect the consumer experience, which requires us to understand consumer needs and product operations. Have a high degree of sensitivity. I remembered what Sleep No More executive producer Zhao Chenlin said. They repeatedly discussed and felt the scene during the production, and would spend a lot of effort to modify and adjust even the smallest mistakes, so that the final presentation would make the audience immersed in the scene. Even if you look at it from a close distance, there is no sense of drama. This is the importance of details.
