What is Bengbu?

Bengbu, also known as Pearl City, is a prefecture-level city in Anhui Province. It is an important comprehensive industrial base in Anhui Province. It is located in the northern part of Anhui Province, in the middle reaches of the Huaihe River, with a total area of ??5950.72 square kilometers and a permanent population of 3.392 million people (2018 year), as of 2019, Bengbu City has jurisdiction over 4 municipal districts and 3 counties: Longzihu District, Bengshan District, Yuhui District, Huaishang District, Huaiyuan County, Wuhe County, and Guzhen County. Bengbu Municipal Government is located at No. 3115 Donghai Avenue, Bengshan District.

History records that Bengbu was “a place for pearl fishing in ancient times”, so it is known as the “Pearl City”. On January 1, 1947, Bengbu was officially established as a city, becoming the first city in Anhui Province to be established as a city. In April 1952, Bengbu City was directly under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province. As of April 2019, Bengbu City has jurisdiction over three counties: Huaiyuan, Wuhe, and Guzhen, and four municipal districts: Longzihu, Bengshan, Yuhui, and Huaishang. Bengbu Municipal Government is located at No. 3115 Donghai Avenue, Bengshan District.

Bengbu is located on the Qinling-Huaihe line, the geographical dividing line between the north and south of China, in the middle reaches of the Huaihe River, at the intersection of the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and the Huainan Railway, and at the intersection of the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway and the Beijing-Fuzhou High-speed Railway; it is a national civilized city, It is a national comprehensive transportation hub city, a central city in the Huaihe River Basin, a central city in northern Anhui, a central tourism city in Anhui Province, and a city in the Hefei metropolitan area. It is known as the land of Yuhui princes and the Pearl City on Huaishang. In November 2018, Bengbu City was selected into the top 100 comprehensive moderately prosperous cities in China. In 2019, Bengbu City achieved a regional gross product (GDP) of 205.72 billion yuan. In the first quarter of 2020, according to the latest economic rankings of 291 cities across the country, Bengbu ranked 129th with a total GDP of 42.537 billion yuan.
