Yunnan Province, called Yun or Dian for short, is one of the 23 provinces in China, located in the southwest of China, with Kunming as its capital. It is between 218 ′ ~ 2915 ′ north latitude and 97 31′ ~1061′ east longitude. It borders Guizhou and Guangxi in the east, Sichuan in the north and Tibet in the northwest.

The terrain is bounded by Yuanjiang Valley and Kuangu in the southern section of Yunling Mountain Range, which is divided into two major terrain areas: East Yunnan Plateau and Central Yunnan Plateau. It is a part of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with an average elevation of about 2,000 meters. It is gentle and undulating with round hills, and various types of karst landforms are developed. Mountains and canyons alternate in the west, and the terrain is steep. The relative height difference between mountains and canyons exceeds1000m and 5000m.
