According to legend, "mangshi" was named by the Buddha just after dawn, which means "the city of dawn". There are six ethnic groups living in the city, namely Dai, Jingpo, De 'ang, Achang, Yi and Han, with a total population of 37,. Mangshi is a town under Luxi City. The word "mangshi" first appeared in the Ming Dynasty. According to "A Brief History of Chieftains in mangshi", the jurisdiction at that time started from Shitou Mountain in the east and was bounded by Nujiang River in the northeast, including Mengnong, Pingjia and Xiangda. South to Mengya, Mengban and other places, west to the intersection of Yulan River and Mangshi River. " The name of mangshi began here and has been used ever since. In the local area, "Mang" also means "national unity and harmonious coexistence". In fact, the popularity and reputation of "mangshi" at home and abroad is far greater than that of "Luxi". In particular, the Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan in World War II and the China-Myanmar Border People's Gala hosted by Premier Zhou Enlai and Premier Ba Swe of Myanmar in mangshi in 1956 made mangshi, a border town, famous in Southeast Asia and around the world. Mangshi Hotel, mangshi Airport, mangshi Hall, mangshi Square and so on have appeared in the streets in large numbers, which makes most foreign businessmen only know mangshi but not Luxi. Therefore, experts, scholars and some officials suggested that Luxi City be renamed as mangshi directly. Scholars believe that "Mang" and "mangshi" have evolved from tribal names to place names used by all ethnic groups for thousands of years, which have the meaning of unity, harmony and stability and condense the spiritual wisdom of all ethnic groups. After renaming, it can eliminate the confusion of place names and smooth the flow of people, logistics and information, which is conducive to external publicity and enhance visibility. A survey of 4,751 people in Luxi City shows that the support rate for restoring historical place names and renaming Luxi City as mangshi is 96.96%. On February 5, 29, Luxi officially started the renaming procedure. Recently, China the State Council officially approved: Luxi City was renamed as mangshi. At present, Luxi City is working on the renaming of various cities. Historically, Luxi City was the fortress of the ancient Silk Road in the south, and it was the only place for the entry and exit of the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, the stilwell road and the China-India Oil Pipeline. With the construction of the western route of the Trans-Asian Railway, the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline and the China-Myanmar land-water combined transport corridor, Dehong Prefecture wants to turn mangshi Airport into an international airport.
