Scenic spots in Beijing: Temple of Heaven

The Temple of Heaven was founded in Yongle 18 of Ming Dynasty (1420). It is located in the south of the city, with a total area of 273 hectares. After the expansion and reconstruction of Ming and Qing dynasties, this magnificent building looks magnificent and solemn, and it is the place where emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties worship heaven and pray for blessings. The northern part of the temple is round, while the southern part is square, which means "a round place" and better symbolizes heaven and earth. The whole building is surrounded by two walls, which divide the whole temple into an inner area and an outer area, and the main buildings are surrounded by the inner area. The most important buildings are the Hall of Prayer for the New Year, the Dome, the Imperial Temple of Heaven, the Imperial Dome, the Kitchen, the Promenade, and other places of interest, such as the Echo Wall, the Sanxian Stone and the Seven-Star Stone. The Temple of Heaven is the comprehensive embodiment of unique architectural technology since Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the most precious ancient building in China and the largest building group dedicated to heaven in the world. 1998 was listed in the World Heritage List by UNESCO.

Do you know that?/You know what? Four wonders of the Temple of Heaven! It is worth your time to study these four wonderful sounds.

1. Echo from the Echo Wall-There is a circle of walls around the sky, which is the famous Echo Wall. A person whispers at any point near the wall. If you put your ear close to the wall, you can hear it clearly on the other side, just like making a phone call. Do you want to know why? This is possible, because the wall is round and sealed with smooth solid bricks, so sound waves can spread to the other side through the extremely smooth inner ring.

2. The voice of the dialogue stone-if you stand on the stone 18 in front of the imperial vault, the voice can clearly reach the northeast corner of the north hall and the northwest corner of the west hall, which are both 36 meters away. When talking from the corners of these two wings, you can also hear voices on the stones, which is what we call "the voice of the dialogue stone".

3. Repeat the sound of the three-tone stone-it is the three-tone stone before leaving the steps of the hall. If you stand at the first stop, shout loudly or clap your hands, your voice will have an echo; On the second stone, the sound will be heard twice; On the third stone, the sound will be repeated three times. So it inherited the name. This is because the distance from the sound wave reflected from the circular wall to the first wall is different, and the number of echoes is also different. Guess which slate is in the center of the echo wall? The third one. The echo will actually repeat more than three times, but the sound is too weak to be heard after the fourth echo.

4. The hollow of Tianxin stone-there is a slate in the center of the dome altar, called Tianxin stone. Stand on it and shout loudly, and you will hear the echo. This is due to the refraction of sound.
