Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture is one of the eight autonomous prefectures in Yunnan Province and the capital of Jinghong City. Xishuangbanna is located at 21/kloc-0'-22 40' north latitude and 99 55'-10' east longitude. Located on the northern edge of the tropical zone south of the Tropic of Cancer, with an area of 19 124.5 square kilometers.

Xishuangbanna is located in the southern extension of Hengduan Mountains, at the end of the Nujiang, Lancang and Jinshajiang fold systems, with mountains and hills accounting for about 95% and mountain basins and valleys accounting for about 5%. The state is high around, low in the middle, high in the northwest and low in the southeast. With the Lancang River as the boundary, it is divided into three geomorphic areas: central, western and eastern. The vast mountains in the east run through the northeast of Jinghong City and Mengla County, with an altitude of 1000- 1500m. The west is the remnant vein of Nujiang Mountain, which is distributed throughout Menghai County.

Except for a few pearl basins and low mountains, most of them are cutting mountains, with an altitude of1500-2000m. The middle part is eroded by the lower reaches of Lancang River and its tributaries, and cut into many open valleys and wide valley basins surrounded by mountains, which are concentrated in the west, south of Jinghong City and south of Mengla County. The terrain is relatively gentle, with an altitude of 500- 1 000 meters.
